New Villa owner looking to re-name Villa Park
He's only been there five minutes and is looking to adorn the stadium with the name of his health food business and will then try to appease fans by promising lots of money for new players.
New Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Jiantong Xia is considering plans to rebrand Villa Park upon completion of his takeover of the club, according to a report in the Beijing Times.
The Chinese businessman, 39, this week bought Villa from American Randy Lerner, who had been looking to sell since 2014.
As part of the drive to try to get Villa promoted back to the Premier League as soon as possible, Xia is considering changing the name of the Villa Park - the club's home since 1897 - possibly to incorporate his health food business.
He told the Beijing Times: "One of the things we have thought about is using the Lotus Health name to rebrand Villa Park.
"Villa Park is a very historical stadium, so we will not simply and callously destroy a club's history.
"We want to use Villa's history and its' substantial fan base around the world to also promote Lotus Health products and services globally.
"The ideal scenario would be for fans to enjoy Lotus Health products at Lotus Villa Park, it would be a great advert for both brands."
Any such change to the name of Villa Park could run the risk of angering supporters and the report also claims that Xia will try to get fans on side by promising major investment in the transfer market.

Re: New Villa owner looking to re-name Villa Park
If it can happen at St James Park don't see why it won't happen here.
Not the best way to introduce yourself though.

Re: New Villa owner looking to re-name Villa Park
"How can the fans let a long tradition of the club just die like that"
"It would never happen at my club"
I can hear it now.....................

Re: New Villa owner looking to re-name Villa Park
"Villa's history and its' substantial fan base around the world "
Surely on that basis he would've been better off buying the mighty Leeds, with the added bonus he could change their colurs with barely a whimper from the ferret worriers

Re: New Villa owner looking to re-name Villa Park
They should call it Vanilla Park as they usually get a good licking.

Re: New Villa owner looking to re-name Villa Park
I've never heard of their products so it does not sound too much like a brand name, lucky for them that they don't own Tampax or something like that.

Reminds me of the last time a Chinese businessman bought a Birmingham club, that ended well didn't it.

Re: New Villa owner looking to re-name Villa Park
Clueless , tasteless, shameless investors, determined to kill British football, cluelessly failing to understand what the fan-base understands, failing to appreciate anything of historic or 'cultural' value, and alongside, way too arrogant to take advice.
Shame, it will continue and continue.

Someone from the Far East trying to adopt the Lotus position.

Re: New Villa owner looking to re-name Villa Park
If I wanted to increase the interest in the club that I had just bought I would firstly get our fans on side and reach out to the local community (no outside investor would want to get involved with empty seats and aggrieved supporters) and then try to find something in our history that could be played up as the story of our club: Liverpool, Dortmund, Real Madrid all have something beyond winning their leagues multiple times. Part of Villa's story is that they are one of the most established clubs in the the UK....why would you want to change that by 'tackyfying' the name of the stadium?

This brand of modern owner from abroad are all run off the same plug. How do the authorities vet them? The Fit and Proper Person's Test is neither fit nor proper.

"We want to use Villa's history and its' substantial fan base around the world to also promote Lotus Health products and services globally." And so they came up with Lotus Villa Park - fair do's.
