Cardiff and Newport enter Nathaniel MG Cup as wildcards!
https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/...enter-19380826
Cardiff City will have another cup to compete in this season after being entered in the 2020/21 Nathaniel MG Cup.
The Bluebirds, alongside Newport County, will be entering the competition for the first time in their history, after being invited by the Football Association of Wales.
The Nathaniel MG Cup is the League Cup of the Welsh pyramid system and consists of the 12 clubs from the Cymru Premier and the 32 from the Cymru North and South.
Winners of the competition earn prize money as well as a place in the Scottish Challenge Cup, which means Cardiff could play north of the border next season.
A mixed side of fringe and youth players is expected to be fielded when Cardiff enter at the round one stage next week, with the first team fully focused on their South Wales derby with Swansea City.
Potential opponents for Cardiff could include Taffs Well, of whom the two sides have played three times in pre-season friendlies, as well as Llanelli Town, who are managed by cult hero Andy Legg.
The round one draw will take place tomorrow with ties to take place on the weekend of December 11/12 as Bluebirds fans wait in anticipation on the possibility of stars rocking up to grounds of their local sides.
Cardiff have not competed in a Welsh domestic competition since the FAW Premier Cup, which ended in 2008.
Meanwhile, the first team have been drawn away at Championship rivals Nottingham Forest in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup with the tie due to take place in early January.

I think it's a typo. It is really the Nathaniel ML Cup - and despite the recent 'difficulties' it's a case of once a Bluebird..... Of course he wouldn't invite the Jacks!

I can't wait for the stars of the Cymru Premier and the Cymru North and South to "rock up" at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Home to Taff's Well w/e 11/12/13 December.
Club announcement talks about the Academy - though maybe that is also an opportunity for a few fringe first teamers?

Have you forgotten that our leading striker used to be a lifeguard while playing in the non-league? Or that Millwall and Hibs have strikers on their books who played in Welsh league system?
Nearly every ex-footballer now speaks of importance of playing senior football. This will give our some of academy that experience while also giving us a chance to see if there are any more Moore's out there.

Good post, we use to pick up some good players when our reserves played in the Welsh League. My mate played for Cardiff City for a couple of seasons after having a great game against them for Bridgend Town!

Out of interest, who was your mate?

It just might be our way forward as well. Every single team is now investing a huge amount into data analysis to find and develop the best players which we're unlikely to be able to compete with, and are unable to copy Brentford in picking up the ones bigger teams close to us cut a little too early - unless we want to wish Bristol City huge amounts of success, so probably have to look to markets not yet seen by others. Inter Milan are doing it in north Wales, in a limited way, but we should have some pull over them.
