This is why the pressure/pressing style of football will change

Chelsea are blessed with strength in depth, but their style of play, demands placed on their players by Tuchel's training methods and the various international competitions during the mis-named close season are taking their toll.

Against Brighton, they looked lethargic and were simply over-run.

Chelsea are 'mentally and physically tired' said the Blues boss. "We are the team that plays and plays and plays so you feel it, of course. That's why we need to de-connect, recharge the batteries and come back with hunger and joy to fight these matches. It's necessary."

Tuchel has given his squad the next two days off to try to recover.

Anyone have any ideas of the next trend in football tactics, and which part of the world it will come from?

The amount of pressing done by teams, has been decreasing almost across the board for a couple of seasons now. We are already past peak pressing and onto a more nuanced version.

Man City especially noticeably backed off when the covid affected season resumed, as there were a lot of fixtures in a short time. They were still pressing hard when they needed to, but being a bit more selective about when to spring the trap

Leeds obviously didn’t get the memo. Their pressing of West Ham on Sunday was some of the most persistent and aggressive pressing I’ve ever seen and it didnt tail off as the game went into the latter stages either.

Yes i was going to say - Leeds are I think the only team who have been if anything increasing the amount of pressing throughout the covid period

The wordls most operated coach Bielsa doesn't know any other way.
He's been doing the same thing for over 20 years.
For all the media fawning over him being this outstanding tactical genius all his teams play one way and one way only.
That's why he needs to move on so often.
His teams eventually burn themselves out.
