Gary unofficial opposition leader Lineker thinks PM job is a tough gig ..
Only life saving jobs like surgeons , came out on top of a PM job , its dreadfully low paid job with massive responsibility , one could argue the more you pay the better quality you get ?? In a job none of us could do ..
In a recent poll 75% of folk thought MP 's were underpaid , I tend to agree when you see the wage demands now for some folk who earn close or more than MP wages and the abuse and danger and responsibly for decisions that effects all our lives ..

If higher pay eliminated corruption from politics then I'd be all for it. Unfortunately I don't think it will.

3 times average pay for an MP is morally indefensible. It's just a gravy train for too many.

Pay them triple, but don't let them have a second job or any investments that could cause a conflict of interests when writing policies for the betterment of the country (cough cough, being landlords).
Take away that subsidised bar in Westminster too. 99% of the country can't drink on shift so why should the people determining the livelihoods of 66 million people. They wouldn't need a subsidised bar on £250k anyways.

On the other hand, many MPs had to start their political career working for nothing over a period of years in constituencies where they had little chance of winning - and some of them will be turfed out at the second election they compete in. Pay them too little and you won't improve the quality of candidates in the first place.

A quiz question for political hounds hereabouts.
Who in the House of Commons has been there for centuries as an observer representing the interests of a very specific entity? The person has an olde worlde job title.
It's not an MP, so isn't the speaker or deputy speaker, a clerk, tea lady or some security flunky.
The entity mentioned isn't the sovereign or anyone in the Royal household.
Answer on Sunday should nobody provide the correct one.

Given the shit show we've had for years I'd say paying them average wages is likely to improve the calibre of the MP cohort dramatically. It could well induce common sense political discourse.

Reduce them to average wage, cut all expenses to just the bare essentials and then curtail all subsidies. Then we'll find out what real MPs are made of. We need lawmakers who put the interests of the common man before anything else.
