Will a Starmer government really help disabled people?
His appointment of a right-of the party Work and Pensions Minister: Liz Kendall, doesn't fill me with confidence. In fact, it was the first kicking yesterday of many I expect to see against seriously ill people who are struggling and have been demonised for 14 years. I'm expecting the same rhetoric from this latest appointment. I hope I'm wrong.

No surprise. We have basically a Tory lite party in office. One I didn't vote for.

Re: Will a Starmer government really help disabled people?
You won't have to worry too much in the foreseeable future but the DWP look on mental health claimants in the same way as the insurance industry look on whiplash. There are about 250 thousand people that have that have claimed PIP since Jan of this year. They have taken on and are training bucket loads of people to train as assessors and they reckon it'll take years to clear the backlog.

The Labour party will do feck all to help anyone that deserves it. God help us for the next five years. In the words of John Laurie (Dad's Army) "We're doomed Capt. Mainwaring, we're doomed".

They are definitely going to be doing more for the disabled than the Tories
If we are doomed under labour then the vulnerable would have been shot under the conservatives

Re: Will a Starmer government really help disabled people?
Can we just give them a chance, they have not been in power a day and people are slagging them off.
We do not know what there plans are.

I think their election campaign told us they are going to be like the Tories but not quite as nasty and not having parties or placing bets on election dates.

Re: Will a Starmer government really help disabled people?
No . Mr Wes has already set his failure stall message out the NHS is broken and im meeting the junior doctors about the 35% wage demand .
Disabled issues only come into play when they point too evil Tories. It goes away then until the next election.
NHS will see massive private investment to pay for thier promises ,as per Tony Blairs manfesto fix .
Sone good news at Sir Bier conference today he said white boards will be going up everywhere to ensure the party recalls thier promisses, not sure if they will multi language ones sure to cost a few bob cant use cheaper versions or blackboards
Im happy to be proven wrong as it is critical real disability folk are attendeed too and supported, my worry the false claims suck away at the funds for those that really need it .

That’s not how activism works. I’m not actually concerned about the party or the politics from an ideological point of view. I’m concerned about disabled people. That’s why I posted this on the main board. I’m more concerned about us than seagulls. Not having a go. Just stating a fact.

It's almost as if not much will change isn't it!?

Re: Will a Starmer government really help disabled people?
Well this lasted longer on the main board than I thought it would. Good to know that. Jay Slater, Seagulls and tipping tradespeople is more important…..unlike….minority groups. This is not a political issue. It’s an Equality issue. I’m well p*ssed off now.

So what’s your view. Do you condemn hammering the disabled or do you support it?

He is fully in favour of cracking down on benefits , privatising the nhs , stopping free meals for kids from poor families and very low taxation
That's until he gets injured in an accident not covered by insurance , gets cancer , needs an operation on the NHS to save his life etc
Then he will suddenly want increased taxes to pay for the NHS he now needs and because he can't work because of his operation for the next six years till his retirement he will suddenly drop his opposition to all these lazy people getting free money because he fecking needs help himself
What a cnnt

Of course not, I believe that people who are capable of working shouldn't be paid to stay at home while others work hard and fund their benefits. Genuine disabled people mostly need a bit more.
