Completely off topic ..but.. I知 thinking about having a conservatory.
The size is 4.2 metres by 6 metres so it痴 not a small job.
Oh wise ones of CCMB I will be grateful if you have any suggestions /recommendations as to who might provide me with a quote for this work.
It痴 not urgent and I don稚 mind waiting until Spring 2025 but its not easy finding a decent builder prepared to provide a quotation for this work.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

The cheapest (Maybe not the easiest way) is to get a team of brickies in yourself to lay the slab and build the walls up for you, then get a company in to measure and fit the conservatory for you.

It's 11.5 months when you take the geo-engineering into account.
Re: Completely off topic ..but.. I知 thinking about having a conservatory.
I would these days go with a " garden room " a lightweight insulated roof ( will look like its tiled from the outside ) maybe 2 glass panels in the roof system ( to let in more light )
it really is the next step up from a conservatory
a conservatory is a great idea, more living space, a nice bridge between your garden and the house BUT our weather doesnt make them what they should / could be, now ive installed them, ive sold them, we have extremes in weather, when its 30 C outside, its 45 in that glass box, when its -1 C outside, its maybe 5 C inside ( even with the biggest radiator / heater you can buy ), I had one installed on my last house, it was the girls play room and my console room, the it was being built ( off the dining room ) I had a radiator installed in it ( removed one from the dining room and used the pipe work to go through the wall into the conservatory ) this double rad was 2.4M long, the plumber joked that is had more output than the rest of the downstairs rad's ( he wasnt far off ) as soon as the temps outside dropped to below 10 C, the room was freezing, now the heat of course escapes through the glass windows, but that roof is also the cause
im not sure the cost of a new build conservatory with the real roof is much more than a glass roof these days, but the insulation is much better, I know ive called it a " garden room " but the conservatory companies call them conservatories with real roofs
Re: Completely off topic ..but.. I知 thinking about having a conservatory.
We had a conservatory one upon a time. It looked good but it was too cold in winter too hot in summer (although that would not apply this year) and the roof used to get filthy from the tree in the back garden. Eventually sold it on EBay and had an extension which is what I should have done in the first place.

My two neighbors paid a lot extra to have conservatories and did the same.
If you do go ahead, one tip they said is don't open it up to the house, keep a separate door that way not all your downstairs will be too hot in the summer or cold in the winter.

Same here, I had ours built in 2008 and it’s rarely used. I’ve also just boarded the roof and it’s now being used all the time.
One thing I would have done differently, I should have put underfloor heating in.

I’ve got one like that, on my mums bungalow. Guy put it in just before we bought it, cost about 」15k….6m by 3m. Was wondering if it’s sellable as we don’t want it and are going to build a small extension where it is anyway….as you say boiling even lately, freezing in winter. It’s like you can never sit in it
Re: Completely off topic ..but.. I知 thinking about having a conservatory.
Some food for further thought here. Thank you for your input.
Tuertos suggestion makes sense in terms of costs but it’s a balance between cost and convenience
I looked at different types of roofing and I think blue matt called it correctly so I’m looking at a build called an ‘orangery’ style so more of a single floor extension but with upvc panel walls and a more solid roof with roof lights.
It’s always a process of sifting and sorting

If you're going to go with a orangery you have to beef up the foundations generally for the weight of the roof.
When you do that, you may as well get rid of the UPVC all together.
