Re: CARDIFF CITY v MIDDLESBROUGH. Match thread
This is a MUST NOT LOSE match and hopefully one we can win. The early kick off (for the already exhausting amount of televised football) will not help the attendance and it's an awful long way for the Boro' fans to travel for a lunch time encounter.
The youngsters last night v Saints showed how to play attacking football and this may influence some of the seniors to be more adventurous. No better time for Ramsey and co to show what they can do, Middlesbrough are no great shakes and three points is definitely within our grasp.

Absolutely a must not lose game
The season starts now
A defeat after a good point at Swansea and we are back to the pits of death

Have you ever considered giving motivational speeches?

A Greg Farrell performance from one of our wingers would what is needed.

Greg Farrell was just before my time as a City supporter, so I'll raise you a Peter King, or even a Willie Anderson!

Farrell destroyed Boro that night, a hat trick in a 5-3 win. Amazing performance. Pity he went on to an ignominious career after leaving City.

.
Good choices but I’m afraid you can’t raise anyone above Greg Farrell’s performance that night.

The hat trick was Dickie Rooks the Middlesbrough centre half

It can't possibly be any worse than the Dave Jones promotion chasing side that were beaten in about 20 minutes can it?

Wikipedia says "Playing as a winger, he often showed flashes of brilliance, including scoring one and supplying four other goals during a 5–3 win over Middlesbrough in May 1966. "

Really looking forward to this one! Not because I think we'll play well but because it's helped me get out of seeing my in-laws :ayatollah:
0-2 Boro

Must be my age, I was there that night and Farrell had a brilliant performance and thought he did get 3.

Very pleasant evening it was too. Don't know what Greg had in his tea, but it certainly did the trick that night.
Was told he enjoyed a pint. Mind you most of the players of that era did!
Hope Tanner isn't following in that tradition.

True, but defeat at home to an out of form Boro side who are missing a number of their better players would definitely start the alarm bells ringing.

“Form” is stretching it considering it’s only been 3 games

Also true, it is a pretty tricky start to the season we've got though - a team that's won 3/3, promotion favourites, local derby, Boro are usually pretty good, Derby will be tough in the snow then it's Leeds

They’ve narrowly beaten a poor Jacks side and picked up one point from two games against promoted sides. Leaving aside getting smashed 5-0 at home in the cup this week, they look out of form to me. They finished 8th last season, so are clearly not great anyway.
Boro at home looked a standard Championship game when the fixtures were released, but they look vulnerable at the moment, especially with their injuries and transfers. I’ve got no idea how this game will pan out, but under the circumstances I don’t think another defeat would augur well.

It’s hard to know what to make of Burnley. They were promotion favourites before the season began, but a fair number of the players who led to that situation have left, so who knows how they’ll end up.
Unlike Boro, Sunderland definitely look in form at the moment. The Jacks game was a nonsense (they’re really not very good, but we approached it like they are a top side for an hour). But that’s Bulut for you.
This division looks wide open this season. Nobody stands out as good or bad at the moment.

8th in a strong Championship is pretty decent to be fair
But yes they haven't gotten going at all this season and are out of form, from what I've seen they've conceded some freak goals this season so the question is whether that's bad luck that'll even out over the season or is it indicative of deeper problems?

Sunderland have lost Jack Clarke since our game. Thought he was their best player against us.
