Time to praise Riza- we are quick enough to criticise
I know one swallow and all that but what guarantee does a new guy bring, and more improvement than Rizza with this crop. Rather than singling one player to praise I found myself struggling to criticize anyone for a change.

Interesting he didn't seem to stay long on the pitch afterwards and left after shaking the officials hands from what I could see

Re: Time to praise Rizza- we are quick enough to criticise
After the Bristol game, I acknowledged the mistake he made in going to a back 5, but I felt that unless we had a stand out contender for the job letting the 'interim' situation continue after the international was not really a risk. I felt he had brought enough positive changes to the team to allow him continue. And even though yesterday's performance justified my stance in spades, I would not appoint him full time yet. I would let the current situation run until the next break and take the decision then. We have made too many wrong managerial decisions and the next one needs to be based on more evidence than 4 games. That said, Riza has changed so much for the better. His selections, his tactics, his man-management and above all the positivity and freedom he allows players is a breath of fresh. It only goes to show how fecking awful Bulut was. Why people "wanted him to stay" I will never know.

He’s great at not picking the players that failed miserably under Bulut.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves
Plymouth are one of the worst sides in the league and had 10 men

Re: Time to praise Rizza- we are quick enough to criticise
Aside from the performance on the pitch, I liked what he said in his press conference in the week about giving players like Tanner a bit more freedom and telling them they're not going to be substituted if they make a mistake, just if they run out of steam. Also about finding positions and roles that suit players like Robinson and Colwill to get the best out of them.

Agree with your first statement and half of your second but isn't that what a really good team does to a not so good side?

Re: Time to praise Rizza- we are quick enough to criticise
In the Bristol game Riza made a mistake going to a back 5. It was only a mistake because the Wurzel's equalized. If we had held onto our lead his decision would have been seen as astute.
The point is football is not an exact science. Managers/Coaches play the margins, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. What they get judged on firstly is results and secondly style of play. Seven points from nine plus 7 goals to one against is good to have on his CV so far if you ignore the 4-1 loss at Hull

It never surprises me that when ever we win the team we beat were 'the worst side we've played' or 'worst in the league' or some other comment to downplay our success. Even when we won promotion to the Prem for some it was only because it was the weakest Championship for donkeys years.
Let's hope the manager doesn't tell the players that in the changing room after the game!!

I'm not anti Riza but why would we ignore the 4-1 loss at Hull?! It's 25% of the sample size :hehe:

You shouldn't ignore it. He started terribly and got rightly slaughtered for it but it is to his credit that he has put together this excellent run of 7 from 9

Have you gone for a lie down ?
I am not sure you can come back from this

Re: Time to praise Rizza- we are quick enough to criticise
Even in the loss to Hull we looked better than we did under Bulut, 4-1 was a bit harsh, but we have got better with each game. I say give him until Christmas. If he has got us out of trouble, give him until the end of the season. If we get mid table and keep playing positive, entertaining football, give him the job. If.

Re: Time to praise Rizza- we are quick enough to criticise
I'm still on the fence but I've started warming to him. He's not been in the job long and it's a learning curve. I'm hoping he's learned from his mistakes at Hull and Bristol and that he's developing a positive plan for the team.
I'm also hoping the team gain further confidence from their last few outings and they will develop a winning belief. As it is, unless a stand out candidate knocks on our door very soon, I'd be prepared to cut him some slack and see how things progress in the short term.

Well I would say till Xmas too
After then if we are still poncing about in the bottom 3 then it will clearly need a more experienced approach

I thought you’d decided you weren’t going to engage with me? Game on again, is it?
Go to the game yesterday, Sludgey? Or have you given up completely now that the guy you backed incessantly for months on end has been given the bum’s rush? I think I can guess…

Disagree. Even if they had not equalised it was a rookie mistake. We were on top and going to a back five ruined all momentum that we had. Hopefully he has learnt from that.

Your character assasination of Riza was one of your finest moments

Re: Time to praise Rizza- we are quick enough to criticise
Remind me, for how many months did you champion Bulut and attempt to bully Eric off the board as he pointed out the former manager’s obvious failings?
Good to hear you made it all the way from Cowbridge to Leckwith yesterday. I believe you. Honestly I do.
