Dan ashworth leaves man u as sporting director after only 5 months- it would happen here wouldnt it?
An easy answer is often for city fans to say if only we had a director of football/sporting director then everything would be rosy.
I have never been bothered by a DoF for the reason being under this owner they would inevitably be sacked fairly quickly. It wouldnt stabilise anything.
Man u fans were excited by ashworth coming in as felt similar to cardiff fans but its lasted 5 minutes.
A DOF is always mentioned when dalman meets the fans as dalman always agrees with the fans but just says tan wont allow it. I hope this argument is dropped as until tan has gone there really would be no point in having one.

20 million on Ashworth and Ten Haag to sack them 5 months after arriving or signing extensions, plus the time they waited for him to finish his garden leave at Newcastle where they had nobody in the role and the club was relatively paralyzed. Meanwhile he's put the ticket prices up because he needs money to spend on the first team. You couldn't make it up, but it does make you feel a little better that it can happen even at one of the biggest clubs in world football.

Was russell slade ever our DOF? I remember when it was announced he was stepping down as first team manager that he was moving upstairs but can't remember if he ever got up them?

The only way to fix Man Utd is to get rid of the players and the entire football related staff, and then start again from scratch. They've had some good managers there and none of them could make it work. You could maybe make a case for one or two players, but that's it.

As I recall, it was announced at the end of the 15/16 season that Slade would be standing down as manager and Trollope would be taking over as, I think, “Head Coach”. Can’t recall the job title, but Slade was going to become someone who would oversee the football side with particular emphasis on recruitment (with hindsight, I’d say the best part of Slade’s time in charge was his recruitment), but, a short time later, he changed his mind saying he preferred to look elsewhere for a managerial post.
Slade was only head of recruitment/director of football for a short while in early summer of 2016, so it could be that he did very little during that time, but, you never know, he could have set the wheels in motion for some of the signings we made that summer - whoever worked on the Joe Bennett transfer deserves a medal as he was such a bargain.

The Pep Guardiola of DOF's football is so unpredictable, you can try and employ the best and still sometimes won't work!

He’d gone before the grandstand loft extension was finished
