Anyone remember when the ref got injured in home game 80s or 90s?
Had to appeal for a referee from the crowd and a city fan took charge of the game after the referee went off injured.
I believe it was a guy I knew who refereed on parks pitches over Ely racecourse called Tony Jones who lived in Ely.

Didn't a ref go off injured in a Coventry vs Cardiff game a few years ago?
"you're not fit to referee" chants as he was helped off the field.

Didnt know him that well, but Tony Jones worked at Companies House in the late seventies and eighties when I was there. The game was a bit more recent than you thought, it was in the season we got beat by Stoke in the Play Offs, so was on Easter Monday 2002 against Port Vale - we won 1-0 and I thought he acted as a linesman after the ref and then one of the linesmen were injured.

There was a game on boxing day in the 90’s where the ref went off injured. I’m sure it was against Plymouth and we won 1-0

I'm sure also he used to word at Ely paper mill before that Bob. Well I definitely thought it was earlier than that. I bow to your knowledge

Was going to suggest it was later than 90s, I was there with two of my (then) young lads. They were urging me to volunteer as I had the grand total of half a dozen games "refereeing" the village under 11s under my belt. 😂

Yes, I remember that - he definitely didn't referee the game.

Does it come up with any type of records for the game with a change of linesman or referee? One for Stato Eric?
