Guess the City manager from selected stats
1. Lost 60% of all his away games by 3 or more goals despite winning 8 of his first 15 away games. Finished with a scoring record of - home: scored 26, conceded 25; away from home: scored 25, conceded 26.
2. Has the second lowest loss percentage of any City manager at a mere 20% while all games won by this manager were by 2 goals.
3. His side conceded 699 goals in league, English cups and Europe, while winning a mere 38 out of 233 away games at a worse rate than Terry Yorath and Alan Durban. Home GD of +162, away GD of -182.
4. His 59 wins in two different division at a rate of 41% were greater than the number of defeats suffered under this manager, yet overall he ended up with an overall goal difference of -1, largely due to a number of heavy home defeats.
5. Has the highest overall away goal difference of +18 and the 2nd highest scoring average away from home. His side never scored more than 3 at home but managed this on 5 occasions away from home.
6. Whenever we scored under this manager, we always scored 2 goals. We failed to score in twice as many games under him than we actually scored in.

1 reads like Mick McCarthy in some places, but not others, I'll go with him though.

1 is McCarthy. He's got our 3rd ever best away win rate, only lost 5 out of 19 away fixtures, but 3 of those were 3-0 at the Jacks, 5-1 at Blackburn and 5-0 at Sheffield Wednesday. Looking at our results under him again make for some astonishing reading. After that Wednesday thrashing, we went 11 unbeaten, which includes 5 unbeaten at the start of the 2021/22 season. We then lost 10 of the next 11, scoring only 4 and conceded 24. I'd have to check, but I doubt there has ever been such a dramatic change of results in our history.
2 is the Gould. Drew 6 of his 10 games in charge, highest rate of any City manager. Riza is second at present. Had 2 wins, 4-2 and 2-0. Creditable draw at home to Palace in the league cup, where I've just noticed Fan Zhiyi played for the Eagles.
5 is Lennie. Scored 4 at MK Dons, QPR and Wycombe, 5 at Boston and, most memorably, 7 at Oldham. However, due to a cock up on my part, we did score more than 3 several times under Lawrence at home (7 times in fact), so apologies for the error. His record of scoring 3 or more in a home game stands at 18.6% (ranked 23 overall). Immediately above Lennie is (for home games)
22 - Warnock (18.7%)
21 - Mackay (19.1%)
20 - Jones (19.4%)
19 - Neal (20.0%)
17 - Gould (20.0%)
15 - Solskjaer (21.4%)
9 - McCarthy (26.3%)
7 isn't Jones. It's Neil Harris. I think we'd automatically think Jones has the best scoring rate given the number of hammerings his sides could hand out. Only Harris, Cork, Lawrence and Solskjaer (!) since 2000 have higher percentages of scoring 3 or more in a game, Jones lies 15th of all City managers in that respect. In total we scored 3 or more 50 times under Jones, the 5th highest total (bonus points for naming the 4 above Jones). While Jones comes close to the top of all City managers in many stats, 17 managers have a lower rate of failing to score in games. Feast or famine was a phrase I remember being used and the stats back this up.
In all fixtures, Harris's side scored 3 or more 12 times in 62 games, though never scored more than 4. In 3 of those we also conceded 3 and won another 2 games 3-2. We failed to score in 16 games under Harris, the 10th best rate of all City managers.

Thanks Eric, enjoyed that. Neil Harris doesn’t seem as bad a manager now as he did at the time. The football was boring by the end, but we’ve had much worse since then.

Yes, I think the rot was starting to set in. Harris did well to get us to the playoffs against a good Fulham side when we looked a shadow of the side that won promotion 2 years before. We were 3 points off the playoffs before losing 5 on the trot in the league and he got sacked. I don't recall many being disappointed with him being given the boot at the time, but in hindsight, it seemed more than a tad premature.

Harris and Slade seem to have a bad name but they didn’t do too badly.

Comparatively speaking with more recent goons to have held the position.
Both suffered with managing sides that were in their second season back in this division after relegation. Expectation levels were high (goodness knows why looking back).
