Scotland proposing speed changes
National speed limit on single carriageway roads to drop from 60 to 50mph.

Re: Scotland proposing speed changes
there are *some* single carriage national speed limit roads where you'd be an absolute maniac to drive at 60 or even 50.
Some of the lanes around north Cardiff are technically a 60 limit but you'd never get close to that without risking killing someone - I've often thought they should just make them a 30 limit which is more realistic, and then people's sat navs would stop sending as many people down them as they won't be as quick a short cut.
Like some of the lanes between Lisvane and Pontprennau. Or Wenallt road.
Wenallt road even has a sign up warning of speed cameras - so presumably they're expecting people to be doing MORE than 60 past the Wenallt.

I can get up to 40 on those lanes between Pontprennau and Lisvane but not for sustained periods due to the bends, I agree I don't feel particularly comfortable going much above that on that particular stretch. If i'm behind someone doing 30 I'm alright with that.
It's the increasing amount of drivers that basically do a 20 average through them and then almost come to a stop every corner that wind me up when it's actually quite wide.
Rarely though you will see someone who must be doing over 60 through them, not for me.

Some stretches of that main lane are reasonable. Some of the other lanes are a lot worse and still technically 60 - like going between Rudry and J30 past cefn Mably - it stays icy in a lot of those lanes in the winter as well because the sun barely gets on the road.

There's a reason for it - speed limits encourage some to speed, while a national speed limit on a road that is clearly unsuitable for those speeds makes some more cautious

I'm sure there's a logic behind that, but I don't get it.
