Possibly one of the most pointless City stats I've ever produced
This originates from something I saw on social media and thought it was interesting and absolutely pointless at the same time. Consecutive runs, or the opposite.....
Excluding Welsh cup games, our best consecutive runs are as follows:
Wins - 9 (1946/47 under Bill McCandless)
Draws - 5 (4 occasions: 1990/91 under Len Ashurst, 1997/98 under Russell Osman, 2000/01 under Bobby Gould (we drew all of his first 5 games in charge) and 2006/07 under Dave Jones)
Defeats - 8 (2021/22 under Mick McCarthy, somewhat ironically achieved by defeat to Neil Warnock's Middlesbrough - under Warnock we achieved 8 wins in a row, our second best ever winning run)
However, what about those seasons where we didn't manage that many consecutive results, where we struggled for any semblance of form, good or bad? I've had almost one message about this very stat in the past, so I thought I'd do some research as I'm sure you're all eager and desperate for this information.
In 1986/87 we followed up one result (win, loss or draw) with a different result on 43 occasions from 57 games. Our longest streak was 3 consecutive wins. We managed 2 successive wins on 4 occasions, 2 successive draws on 3 occasions and 2 successive defeats on 5 occasions. Here's the list of results:

At the opposite end of the spectrum was the 1946/47 promotion season, where we followed up a result with a different one on only 16 occasions, as follows:

I am pretty sure that the 8 game streak under Warnock ended on snowgate day.

We’d won seven straight games when the Derby game was called off, we then beat Burton on Good Friday before the run came to an end the following Tuesday when we drew at Sheffield United.

I was just looking back at that run of form and it was a big factor in us winning automatic promotion.
Just before Christmas we were a whopping 18 points ahead of Fulham. They won 16 and drew 4 of their next 20 games, only losing at the last hurdle at Birmingham. I don't have other teams' stats to hand, but I can't imagine there have been too many runs like that in the history of the second tier. Reading managed 52 points out of 60 in their Championship winning season in 2005/06 as part of a run of 25 wins in 33 unbeaten games.

That Reading side was up there with Clough's Forest team as the best I'd ever seen in the second tier, and I have been going down the City since 1964. The season they got promoted to the PL they hammered us 10-3 on aggregate. They really were something special.
