Oh it's tiny.
Can we talk about Ebou Adams?
The Derby County midfielder scored the first and assisted the second against West Brom yesterday to put the Rams above the drop zone with just two games to go.
It's not just those three points that he has played a key part in winning. Adams ranks first in the division for tackles attempted (146), tackles won (95), blocks (71) and fouls (78) - only a handful of players have made more interceptions than his 55. In fact, he has made more tackles than any other player across England's top four tiers. He's an absolute workhorse of a midfielder and his consistent ball-winning in the middle of the park has been a huge asset to this Derby County side. They have a pretty solid defensive record all told - conceding 56 goals in 44 matches and you cannot overstate Adams' influence on that.
It's hard to believe that this is his first season as an established starter at Championship level. Before this term, he had spent the majority of his career at League Two level and had played more football in the National League than he had in the second tier. An unbelievable signing.
29 years old. A late developer.
when they say fouls, is that for or against?
Just the the type of player we need for next season. It’s going to be a battle.
The defensive side of the game has been our biggest problem all season. Teams come right through the middle of us every game, no one gets near them never mind make a tackle.
Of course if we can get a good defensive midfielder who also likes to “play” wonderful although I doubt it, next season is going to be more physical than ever in league one and we are far to soft.
He spent all his time here, resting, then building himself up in the gym. They owe us big time.
I think he would have made a difference for us, our midfield needs more bite and energy.
he was a big part of Derby going up from league one and now a big part of them staying up in the championship.
I guess we thought we'd get more games out of Ralls and Ramsey.
Looks like we got about 1 million for him
One of Morison's signings, along with Kipre, Philogene, O'dowda, Rinomhota, Robinson and Alnwick. And yes, he made some really poor ones as well, but the point is , since then apart from possibly Fish, we haven't made 1 single signing that shows the club has the slightest clue about player recruitment.
If you're including loan signings, then Karlan Grant was decent and Sory Kaba did the job he was brought in to do (although he wasn't very good). I also think it's way too early to write off Alex Robertson, who turned 22 a few days ago.
But the point you're making is a fair one. Recruitment has definitely been poor in recent seasons.
I am sure he can, but will never be allowed unless we get a maverick coach with his own ideas.
They all use the same software, tactics, tracking device, heart monitors, post post-game analytics package. Davies will be left on the wing keeping in his lane, defend his space , run his press pattern. The ball over the full-back's head retired when Warnock did.
They are coached (poorly) within an inch of thier lives, and the person who assesses the data, reviews the tactics and responses picks the next team.
I can't recall too many arc'd run into the channels for CR either, holding space and leading the press seems to be his job nowadays
I think the problem for at least the Bulut/Riza years is we've too often played with 2/3 of those types of players in the midfield, where really you only need one water carrier and then you've got to have the rest who are able to push forward, with and without the ball. I seem to remember Siopis looking very promising in an early Bulut side with Ramsey and Ralls (I think), before both of those players spent most of the next year being injured and slowing down.
