Would make it more difficult to defend against or play offside but I like the simplicity of it.
We don't want to see people offside over a toe but it's hard to tell var to just ignore x amount of foot. Maybe if they have to get the lines out it just gets left but I guess the proposal above makes it more black and white.
I suppose though it would just be defenders getting upset when the attacker has a toe onside.
There will be tight calls and we'll all still argue about them, but I'd prefer the rule to be that way round (favouring the attacker).
Makes sense when you have VAR but would be even more derisive left to a lino's judgement.

I know the argument used to be someone could just stand by the goal and kick it in. But that's such a simplistic viewpoint! The game has changed so much now. It may help the game spread out as currently it's all so bunched. I'd prefer it with no offsides and would make it more tactical how to adapt.
I can't disagree more. It feels wrong, for a start but it'll mean you can't play a defensive line as the defender can effectively be a yard off the entire time. Teams will just sit back as it will be ridiculously easy to get in behind. Also, I don't want to see 9-8 games, goals should be special.Quote:

But it’s not a new rule is it, it’s just reverting back to the old rule. After I finished playing I was a ref/lino for 3 seasons (late 90s), there weren’t 8-9 goals per game.Quote:

No, its not. The current rule is that level is onside, that's not what it was pre 1990. The current rules gave an advantage to the attacker, this gives such an obscene advantage it is a jokeQuote:

Go with the referee decision unless the team use one of their 2 challenges - then if a challenge is used they can examine it to the nth degree

I don’t understand. For decades the rule was clear daylight. That changed after I stopped playing / officiating, so after 1998. The rule was always clear daylight which is what Wenger is proposing.Quote:
