Stevenage, will we liven it up on our visit ?

Thought your hometown was dull? Well, think again – because the UK’s most boring place to live has been named.
Any guesses? It’s Stevenage in Hertfordshire, jokingly described as the ‘place of nightmares.’ Ouch.
The first new town ever to be built in the UK, it was designed to provide a home for 60,000 people after much of the capital’s housing stock was decimated during World War II.
In 1946 the plans were drawn up – and the very first residents, the Sulzbach family, moved into their brand-new home at 4 Broadview five years later in 1951.
Fast forward almost 80 years though, and Stevenage is supposedly so boring that it’s even been given a crown marking it as such by The Telegraph.
But are things really so bad – or is Stevo merely misunderstood
Now, dear reader, I’m originally from Hitchin in Hertfordshire. While it might have a completely different vibe to Stevenage (warmly regarded as St Evenage or simply Stevo), I spent many a happy Saturday afternoon there growing up.
For starters, half my teenage wardrobe came from the Primark near the train station. And back in the 2000s, £20 would be enough to get you a few bits – whether a stripey t-shirt à la Zoella or even a set of fake pearls.
Plus, nearly all of my first dates took place at the famed Stevenage Leisure Park – home to a gigantic Cineworld, Nando’s, and a Hollywood Bowl. Not to brag, but there are actually 28 lanes there, plus an arcade and American-esque diner.

Poor fecker.
Imagine being a teenager and half your wardrobe was from Primark.

Thanks for sharing that with us, Although i would have never thought that you would be the type of bloke who wears fake pearls from Primark.

I live in Royston, which is equidistant from Stevenage and Cambridge.
It's Cambridge every time for me.
Shame they didn't stay up this season.
Harris did a good job there....not

When we were in the Prem first time, we played Arsenal away on NYD.
The tickets for me and my then 12 Yr old son cost us the princely sum of £26.
A week later we decided to go to Stevenage to watch a 4th division game against Brentford.
The tickets for the away end cost me £44...****ing rip off *****.

Oh, forgot to say...the ground is next to a shopping centre...no pubs nearby.
The town centre is souless, with mot many pubs at all.
Best place for a drink is Stevenage Old town...a taxi ride from the ground.

I've got this awful feeling in the pit of my stomach that we may be related.
My paternal family is from Hitchin and I lived near there as a toddler.
Re: Stevenage - the town centre is awful. Concrete, and lacking character.
The A1M, which runs beside the town, can be a nightmare - a fast dual carriegeway at peak times.
But I've stayed in the Premier hotel there twice in the last six months and found it friendly, functional and forty-five pounds (as I booked in advance)
The road system in the area is dated and poor - makes one appreciate the money that's been poured into Valley's roads in South Wales.
The football club has done well to get into and stay in the Football League imo. And, Alex Revell deserves a shout out. But the club survives with a ground capacity of 7.2K which can be upped to 9.5K.
'And that's all I've got to say'.
