Re: 'Derbies' next season
Looking at that map, it would seem Northampton Town are conveniently located.

Which club's fans do the least travelling?
Wonder which one the jacks' fans consider the bigger "derby" - Wrexham or Bristol City?
Re: 'Derbies' next season
Swansea to Bristol is 80 miles

Not for the Jacks who live in Cardiff!

Yes ... Birmingham had the least amount to travel last season.

Let's be honest, Swansea v Wrexham isn't a derby at all, while Swansea v Bristol is barley a derby either.

Season just ended:
Premier League:
Leicester City (172 miles) ... Newcastle (399 miles)
Championship:
Coventry City (182 miles) ... Plymouth (403 miles)
League 1:
Birmingham (156 miles) ... Crawley Town (262 miles)
League 2:
Crewe (169 miles) ... Bromley (316 miles)
Time to regionalise below the Championship to save costs for fans, the clubs and the planet?
Many more local derbies = bigger attendances = more revenue?
Re: 'Derbies' next season
Lot of clubs close together on that League One map, but I wouldn't class many of them as derbies.
Few rivalries in South Yorkshire by way of proximity, and I believe Bolton/Wigan has become a bit of a derby in recent years. There's also an argument for Bradford/Huddersfield (although if you have to argue it then it's not a proper derby IMO).
But I think the only "recognised" derby would be Exeter/Plymouth?

I've started to create a UK wide distance calculator for all the 92 plus those in the national league.
What I found strange is that Portsmouth is closer to Cardiff than it is to Plymouth.
Re: 'Derbies' next season
I wouldn’t say Coventry v Brum was a derby really.

My partner is from Coventry and some of her relatives have been Sky Blues since the Jimmy Hill days. They mostly say Leicester is their biggest derby (the M69 Derby), but even then it seems to be fairly low key to me.
Their biggest rival (different from derby) seems to be Sunderland!

What method did you use to measure mileage? As the crow flies or road miles?
By the way, the reason I live in Taunton is that it was considered a logistical halfway house in being able to serve the naval bases at Plymouth and Portsmouth in the sixties..

Where in Taunton did you park your ship?

Whoever made that map doesn't seem to know that Charlton beat Orient on Sunday.

The boss of what was my employer is an Admiral. Not all Admirals have ships in every post they fill. And Taunton is the epicentre of global marine navigational charting, believe it or not.

I did not know that!

Indeed - but I wanted to know regarding the database as a whole.

In the US it’s not unusual for personnel who have served to look for jobs in government departments. One chap got himself a job with the US Postal Service.
He was never on time, always late. His supervisor called him in for a chat about his timekeeping.
Unsure of how to proceed the supervisor decided to take things low key.
‘So’ he said when you turned up for work in your last job what did they say to you?’
‘Usually it was Good morning Admiral. Would you like coffee?’
Re: 'Derbies' next season
The distances used are in kilometres (not miles as in my original post) and represent the actual travelling distance rather than 'as the crow flies'.
Just checked AA route planner for Cardiff City Sadium to the Liberty Stadium. Distance = 42.8 miles (or 69 km) ... this is the same distance quoted on the site below.
https://www.footballteamnews.com/tra...?tournament=45
Pompey is 278 km (172 miles) from Plymouth
Pompey is 257 km (160 miles) from Cardiff

Edit:
Distances quoted are actual travelling distances in kilometres (one way) rather than miles.
Return trip from Cardiff to Plymouth would be 490 km (304 miles)
Return trip from Sunderland to Plymouth would be 1304 km (810 miles) !!
