Not A Fan Of The Honours System
But, a massive but congratulations to Billy Boston on his knighthood. WRU should hang their heads in shame at the way such players were treated, Clive Sullivan etc. Billy Boston…..A living legend:thumbup:

Agreed, well overdue recogniton for someone who is still revered in Wigan. Can you remember him as a player at all? I can just about, but I'm not sure how accurate the picture i have in my mind's eye of a big bloke on the wing knocking opponents away in the manner of a Jonah Lomu is.

Vaguely remember rugby league games live on midweek telly in the 60s, Eddie Waring commentating. Seeing footage of Billy this morning it did strike a chord, always looked like an oldish fella then but as you say he was a battering ram of a winger. He was 30 though in 1965, so approaching veteran stage. Would be great to see footage from, say 12 years earlier, when he went North at 18.

Yeah, they used to have a Floodlit Cup throughout the season which would be played in midweek and screened on BBC 2, my strongest memory of that was a Salford game in which David Watkins played a blinder.

You’re either a fan of it or not. You can’t pick and choose who you’re happy with getting one 😂

What was the name of the programme that Eddie Waring was on? Was it a stand-alone rugby league programme? Or was it just Sportsnight?

I’m sure it was something like ‘The Rugby League Floodlit Trophy’. Stand alone, not part of Sportsnight (With Coleman, as was).
Re: Not A Fan Of The Honours System
Fantastic and richly deserved.
Re: Not A Fan Of The Honours System
Should have happened years ago
