Live on Sky Sports Football
Match Officials:
Referee: Tom Reeves
Assistant Referee: Samuel Clayton
Assistant Referee: Danny Jarvis
Fourth Official: Scott Jackson
Port Vale lost on the opening day (2 - 1 at Rotherham) and had left back Jaheim Headley sent off. He will miss the game at Vale Park v Cardiff on Thursday.
Brian Barry-Murphy dropped Ethan Horvath from the matchday squad for City's 2 - 1 win over Peterborough deciding that Matt Turner would be in goal with Jak Alnwick on the bench. Another absentee was midfielder David Turbull with Barry-Murphy saying "we have certain processes in training that we go through that are our code of conduct and David just missed out on one and wasn't available because of that reason. He will be back available on Monday."
Newly appointed captain Calum Chambers is available after serving his one match suspension v Peterborough.

Isn’t Chambers banned for 3 games ?

Chambers’ red at Norwich was for a professional foul (shirt pull) rather than misconduct, so only a one game suspension.

By my reckoning, only 23 seats currently available. I'm away. No pick, no shovel for this one.
Re: PORT VALE v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
I've seen people say we've 2500 for this one ?
Any confirmation?

On paper, this looks like a comfortable win, but we should never underestimate any opposition.
I say we go mostly unchanged, bring Chambers on for Fish who looked a little shaky last game. Having Turnbull available will be helpful too.
Some might want to drop Ashford but I thought he did OK, his flair might work against a former League 2 team.

Be a tough one. Promoted clubs first home game back at this level.
I have no clue about their squad but hopefully we can get that first away win at the first attempt and not wait until late December like last season :hehe:
Re: PORT VALE v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
we haven't lost to them for over 20 years i think...tho not many meetings a league cup rings a bell.
Re: PORT VALE v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Know nothing about Port Vale, apart from it's somewhere near Stoke.
We really need to be beating this sort of team, who would be happy just to stay in Div 1.
3-1 win Salech with a hat trick.
Re: PORT VALE v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Remember the 2-2 draw there a few years back. City fans were put in a pub just across the road from the ground. If I recall Nathan Blake put us two up and police on horses came on the pitch in front of us, I think they were expecting a pitch invasion (I think the previous away game had seen a few shenanigans at Craven Cottage). Port Vale, inspired by Bernie Slaven, fought back to level the score.

Robbie Williams is now the Club President.
Port Vale recently rubbished rumours that Williams was about to buy the club. Sound familiar?

Was that the game when some Port Vale thug ran on and confronted Blakey?
