Re: Nathan Trott Signs - Official
Turner had a good game on Saturday. Does he keep the shirt for a game or two more?

he did play really well - but Trott didn't come here to sit on the bench

Wouldn't be a great sign for the manager to single out someone's performance then immediately drop him

Difficult one though, do you wait for him to have a bad game then immediately drop him and shatter his confidence?
I would like to think they were honest with him at the start of the season and say they are bringing in a new number 1 keeper, until he signs the position is his but you will have to make way once new guy arrives.

Signing a new keeper (especially when we already have 3) has to be the least interesting position for a signing. Yawn.

I think this is right.
You have your no.1 and if Trott is being brought in for that, which I'm assuming he is then he should play soon. Maybe not tomorrow mind given he has only just joined but I think it would be wrong to wait until Turner makes a single mistake.

Keep your pecker up, Buzby.
While a goalkeeper might not be the most exciting of signings, it's an important one considering one of the senior keepers on the books is really poor and the other is bang average at best. Hopefully, the former will be on his way shortly while the latter will serve as no more than an emergency option this season.

Re: Nathan Trott Signs - Official
Yeah, we have to start Trott, can't have a high-profile loanee on the bench. It's a shame for Turner because he did really well vs Posh.

Agree with that
There is no way Hovarth plays BBM ball he is a disaster with the ball at his feet - I'm not even sure he is a good shot stopper and appears very cumbersome. He does however possess huge gloves
Alnwick is a back up keeper - He went up in everybodys estimations when compared to Hovarth - though I guess Turner now gets that nod
Depends on Trotts reliability I guess
Im guessing he's quick with his distribution which is going to be a major factor in the way it gets played out

I would be encouraging Alnwick to move on, along with Hovarth. I think we’ll be fine this season with Turner and Trott, and with a third choice keeper progressing from the U21s.

Alnwick's contract is up next summer, so I'd guess he's probably not too expensive to keep around as a back-up, but it looks like he'll be third choice if he does stay.

I've seen some YouTube stuff; it appears he's OK (on YouTube) with the ball at his feet. Another observation is that he made a lot of saves with his feet with quick reactions rather than diving, and he looks a bit gangly. BBM rates him, so it looks promising.
Hopefully we have good options as at Striker and Keeper, which are key positions.

Re: Nathan Trott Signs - Official
I know nothing about Trott but the Wimbledon fans seemed to rate him when he was with them in this league a few years ago. And from BBMs comments he is 100% his signing so he must know he's they type of keeper we need. Gutted for Turner but he's absolutely shown he can step up so allows us to move on Hovarth (and maybe Alnwick).

Re: Nathan Trott Signs - Official
It would be a shame for Turner if he loses his place after Saturday, but 2nd choice and probably starting for cup games would be a step up from last season at least. (We've got more cup games this season - up to 8 in the Vertu Trophy as well as however many in the League and FA cups - you would hope we would make it through the 1st 2 rounds of the latter.)

Re: Nathan Trott Signs - Official
the life of a goalkeeper is pretty strange.
Jak Alnwick was out number 2, gets his chance after Horvarth has a clanger against Burnley - plays well and keeps his spot as first choice keeper.
then he gets injured, and by the time he's back from injury, we are in a lower league, and according to some he's now our third choice keeper behind Trott and Turner
-
Re: Nathan Trott Signs - Official
The keepers 1st job is shot stopping.
Being good with the ball at his feet is a bonus.
Horvarth isn't very good at either mind.

'Plays well' is a matter of opinion.
You say 'according to some he is now out third choice keeper...'
I strongly suspect one of the 'some' is the manager.

Re: Nathan Trott Signs - Official
As a matter of interest, Alnwick made 21 Championship appearances from November 2024 to February 2025. He kept one clean sheet.
He's not a terrible keeper by any means, but he's not an especially good one either.
City have had a lot better than him at Championship and League One level.
