How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
Or one of our players scoring an own goal
My hearts in my mouth at every backpass

Yep. He does look dodgy in that respect.

I noticed it vs Port Vale and the pressing from their attacker made me clench. He's playing with fire to put it mildly.

Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
We appear to have a keeper who’s half decent with his feet. A bit of a maverick as well. Remember those kinda players?
Wow! Shock! Horror!
FFS. Folk are starting panic threads on here just for the sake of it now.

Pride comes before the fall.

I mean, what do you expect with this ownership? Of course the morale is low. I'm one of the more positive ones as of late, which should say something.

At the close of last season based on comments here, there was a general consensus that of the few players we'd keep, Alnwick was definitely one. All of a sudden he's not good enough for our Pep because he doesn't play the ball out like Ederson. We'll see.

Honestly, I've honestly found sweeper keepers to be quite overrated. It's not like they can dribble the ball up the pitch viably unless the entire team is already in the opposition's half. I'd rather spend the time training for shot stopping. A David Raya type.
I've always backed Alnwick, and it would be a shame to see him go.

If it creates more goals than it concedes what’s the issue.

That's a very big if

Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
On Alnwick I always thought he was decent with the ball, more than once pinged a lovely cross field through ball.
But then was caught at least once with it, I'm sure the new guy will at some point, even the best do.

Wasn’t Raya specifically signed because he was miles better than Ramsdale with the ball at his feet?
I agree with the rest of your post though, a keeper should be a shot stopper first and the rest is a nice to have. Especially at this level Alnwick is perfectly competent, the last position we needed to prioritize signing in my opinion.
Speaking of goalies, was stunned to see that Allsop is starting for Brum in the Championship with all the money at their disposal.

We are in league one.
This business of keeping possession regardless of where the ball is is not only lunacy, it’s boring as ****.
Some people wanted an antidote to Warnockball.
Other teams wanted an antidote to Pullis Ball.
Passing the ball around to try and pull one of the opposition to step out of their defensive shape is a lot more boring IMO and definitely less effective unless you have great players to implement it.
Peps football with his Barcelona team was spectacular.
It then became “The Swansea Way” and tried countless times with varying success.
In the few games that we’ve played, I’ve not noticed any players making a run or even offering themselves for a throw in.
In my mind it’s destined to fail and quickly.
Mainly down to not having the players to carry it out but also how one dimensional it is.
To me, BBM is going to go the same way as Trollope.
He can stick to his philosophy as much as he wants…but it’s not going to get us anywhere.
Obviously, I’d love to be eating humble pie and will be delighted to acknowledge how full of shit and clueless I am.
Just my thoughts, but as things stand…it’s going to be a season to forget.
There is the caveat of new players that we bring in could change things.
Right now though I’m as optimistic as the Osman, Hibbitt, Neal time.

Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
To be fair to BBM, we had exactly the same problem the last 18 months with players not making runs and having no movement in the final third, across two managers who played very different styles (if you can even figure out what style Riza was trying to play).
I don't have a ton of faith in what he's trying to do either, but it might be time to recognize this is just a very poorly put together squad.

Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
FFS . We're 3 games in and unbeaten by the way and all we get is negativity. Give the bloke some f...ing time .

Re: How long before Trott gets caught with the ball ???
Some nippy forward will have Trott’s pants down eventually. And no matter how competent Trott is with the ball at his feet the success of the system is only as good as the unit around him, our lot aren’t up to such intricacies, they’re league one run of the mill defenders. We’re just about getting away with it so far, sometimes by the skin of our teeth.

So what. He’ll make many more good saves than he’ll get caught out. As the poster said above, 3 games in, unbeaten, some world class free kicks and still folk on here are moaning.
This board is getting embarrassing.

Philosophies have no place in phootball.

The way we are going to play, i can see why BBM made goalkeeper his first priority.

Erm….its a football messageboard that has kept going due to differing opinions & viewpoints, you’re moaning at posters who you say are moaning. Any discussions re. The team, the club, the tactics, the formation etc etc should be welcomed & discussed. Isn’t that the whole point of a football messageboard?

Trollope came to mind straight away - steady build up play from the back with not much end result. That's the difference between a manager and a coach. For the coach it's all [or mostly] about how they play, with a manager it's about getting results. So what if Nathan Trott isn't as good a 'keeper as Alnwick, or even Turner, at least he can pass the ball to our back four OK.

To an extent, but it’s overkill on the negativity, and getting worse.
Do you ever wonder why this MB and others are made up of less than 1% of the clubs fan base?
At a wild guess, I’d say it’s because 99% of fans just go to the games, have a moan or celebrate with a few pints after the game, then go home and forget it all till the next game.
On MB’ it’s forensic analysis after every incident in a game, then every day till the next game. It’s getting to the stage on here now, where wins are getting criticised.

He is a converted left back, and a player that uses his feet more than his hands is what BBM wants.
