John Jones Sport Reporter:
Nathan Trott 6 - Didn't have too much to do in the first-half, but sprang into action whenever he was needed to mop up any danger. Busier after the break as he did well to deny Watts and Ibrahim, before a fine save from Tolaj late on. Another clean sheet.
Ronan Kpakio 6 - Perhaps not the youngster's best performance, but certainly no major worries either.
Will Fish 8 - A highly dominant performance from the centre-back, who repeatedly cleared the danger whenever Plymouth threatened and never looked like conceding. Impressive.
Dylan Lawlor 7 - As above, really. Had a golden opportunity to get on the scoresheet too but glanced a header wide from a corner.
Joel Bagan 7 - Another who impressed. Asked constant questions of the Plymouth defence going forward and threatened with dangerous crosses into the box from the off. Would have had an assist early on if Salech had reacted quicker.
Ryan Wintle 8 - Broke the deadlock with a thunderbolt from the edge of the box, and generally controlled the game really well. Will be a very important player for Cardiff this season.
Joel Colwill 7 - Grew into the game, combining well with his brother and proving a handful for the visitors on more than one occasion. Booked for a cynical foul in the first half.
Rubin Colwill (capt) 8 - Looked very good again with his performance likely to see more questions asked of Craig Bellamy, who opted to leave the Bluebirds skipper out of his Wales squad again earlier this week. A constant attacking threat as he picked up a goal and assist, although he did let his emotions get the better of him after Wintle's opener as he was booked for dissent.
Cian Ashford 5 - A frustrating watch. The young man has bags of talent but you were willing him to put a cross in or take on his man rather than always cutting inside. That confidence in the final third will come, of course, but this was not his best performance.
Chris Willock 8 (star man) - More than one candidate for star man today, but it was a really impressive performance from the winger, who is looking like a different player to the one that turned out for the Bluebirds last season. A goal and an assist was the least he deserved after some beautiful link-up play with his teammates, Colwill especially.
Yousef Salech 5 - Caused problems with his physicality early on, but his reactions weren't quite there as chances went begging. A bit of a frustrating afternoon for the Dane, who was subbed but maybe could have done with staying on a bit longer to try and find the net. Needs a goal.
Substitutes:
Isaak Davies (for Salech, 66) 7 - Immediately proved a handful for the Argyle defence and got his just reward with a well-taken goal late on.
Tanatswa Nyakuhwa (for Ashford, 66) 6 - Decent. Had a low strike tipped away in the final 10 minutes.
Callum Robinson (for Willock, 66) 6 - Had a chance to get amongst the goals but couldn't react quick enough to a rebounded shot
Perry Ng (for J.Colwill, 86) 5 - Wasn't on long enough to make an impact
Trott made a couple of excellent saves and also made some great passes.
I’m sure that BBM is hammering home To Salech the importance of his role in the team.
He is not winning many free kicks that would be certainties in the Championship.
His presence alone is allowing others more space and freedom.
He could have done better with a couple of opportunities, but it’s no big deal.
The goals will come.
thanks Jon
Looks like Wintle is getting appreciated now at last !
If you keep a clean sheet you have to get at least a 7. Even if a goal keeper doesn't have much to do it's still unfair to award him anything less. Today our goalkeeper did everything that was asked of him. Again. I'd have given him an 8.
ratings on who scored (which is what they use for the EFL team of the week)
Trott 7.6
kpakio 7.3
Fish 7.7
Lawlor 7.0
Bagan 7.5
J Colwill 7.1
Wintle 8.3
R Colwill 8.7
Ashford 7.5
Willock 8.2
Salech 7.1
Nyakuhwa 6.7
Davies 7.6
Ng 6.2
Robinson 6.2
Trott should be an 8. If a clean sheet should be a 7 then the quality of his saves should elevate that to an 8. If he didn't have any saves to make, then a 7 is fine.
