Bring back beer prices on the pumps
It was much better when you could see the price of every pint; now it's a lottery of how much they sting you.
Fair play to Wetherspoons, they are upfront about it.
P.S. You can tell you're getting old when you moan about the price of beer, back in my day it was 73p a pint :hehe:

You’re lucky, on 15th February Brains Light went up from 1/11d to 10p, Strongbow to 9p from 1/9d. Our dinner time pint in The Mitre, Llandaff during our hour away from Llandaff Tech almost broke the bank. :hehe:

Your pre decimalisation figures seem a bit awry. I paid 1/2d. for a pint of Rhymney bitter in 1960 in the Cow and Snuffers , Llandaff North!

Re: Bring back beer prices on the pumps
I'm sure I paid less than a shilling for a pint in the late 1960s. I couldn't have afforded more - I was still at school! (looked over 18 when i was 15!)
I suppose beer might have been cheaper in the Risca area.

Re: Bring back beer prices on the pumps
All bars are supposed to have a visible price list showing by law .
Refused to pay for 4 drinks in the Church Inn, Llanishen, because they were charging town prices in the suburbs
£6.60p a bottle of cider, robbing barstards

Re: Bring back beer prices on the pumps
Ehhh by 'eck..first pint cost threepenny bit and a farthing.
actually it was 23 pence and i am having trouble with 7,8,9 quid for a pint. It just isn't worth it.

Re: Bring back beer prices on the pumps

That’s about right, a pint costing 1/2d in 1960, then costing 1/11d in 1971.

I think I was paying 1/5d for a Brown-top, in the Old Arcade in about 1968 (couldn’t face dark/bitter yet) :hehe:

Fino lounge was almost £7 for feckin Hofmister, I don't spot the pricing in most pubs, it should be right on the taps/pumps like it used to be, you don't walk around shops and then get a surprise at the tills. I mostly accept it, but every so often you get a nasty surprise.
The Welsh government should enforce and do something useful that could actually benefit people. It would probably push the price down a little.

Re: Bring back beer prices on the pumps
I can't remember the prices, but when I was 15 or 16, 1976/77 school dinner money would buy two pints of bitter and 10 No 6

Try the Oak in Whitchurch. Great pub and better prices.

Youngster. 4 pints & change from £1. Beer or cider only, no larger then!

Re: Bring back beer prices on the pumps
My local club is still decent at £3.70 a pint.
-
Re: Bring back beer prices on the pumps
Get a loyalty card (free), in the Napier and it’s less than £3 a pint (Guinness about £3.80)

Re: Bring back beer prices on the pumps
My old man used to say, “When I can’t get 4 for a nicker I’m wrapping it in”………he didn’t :hehe:

Re: Bring back beer prices on the pumps
I paid £8.40 for a 660ml bottle of Punk IPA in the Everyman Cinema last night. It was listed on the menu so knew what I was being charged, which is a bit different to buying over the bar and being stung afterwards.

In 1977 maybe 78 me and my mates would bunk school and go the "old Penn" and drank pints and played pool. They knew we weren't legal.

The staff where we drank knew we were underage, in fact the landlady gave me a card on my 18th birthday
