the first priority of any government is the protection of its citizens. This is a clear failure on the part of the incumbent government.

however, Ukraine and Iran have shown that asymmetrical warfare is a very real thing, and that new forms of defence will need to be considered.

Its clear that there is running commentary to drastically cut welfare spending to fund defence

And when its suggested that if that occurs then surely it should be the biggest cost within the welfare budget ....pensions and the triple lock .....that should be slashed ..........the usual excuses come out

So there are two issues .......do we really need to spend all this money on defence ? Some big doubts about that

Can we fund the cost of defence through other means than the usual take it off those on universal credit etc etc

They apparently plan to produce their Defence Investment Plan tomorrow when all MP's will have gone home.

So no chance for a discussion in Parliament

I have just seen the Speakers reaction to this and the word incandescent springs to mind.

'Disgrace' and 'Appalling' are a couple of the words used

I saw him tell the Government off in the last parliament but I have never seen him so angry and upset before
