Anybody else really enjoy that?
Not the result obviously. But can't fault the effort, it was one way traffic most of the match, and not all hoofball either. The most I've enjoyed a City match for a long time.
Why oh why though does Mick insist on wasting Giles on the right? Credit to Brown though he put in some far better crosses than I'd have imagined he would.
Bowen did well too, and McGuinness and Pack had good games

Re: Anybody else really enjoy that?
From what I managed to watch on my dodgy stream (season ticket holder but can't walk at the moment) we could have easily won. The problem is we have limited quality and it's a results business. I can't see how anyone can have enjoyed that because we lost.
-
Re: Anybody else really enjoy that?
Just back. Thoroughly enjoyed the game. 100% effort from City, but when you lose Wilson, Ojo, et al, you're very limited in how you can play. I don't think City could have played any better, but defend the crosses and set pieces and you're 95%on the way to stopping City scoring.

You've never enjoyed a game we've lost? Having a few beers and a laugh with your mates, cheering the team on? Life's too short mate, it's just a game

Speaking of life's too short, Reading are the biggest time wasters I can remember seeing for a long long time, disgraceful.

Re: Anybody else really enjoy that?

Hmmmm I get what you mean and I'd enjoy the overall experience with mates as you mentioned but for me I go to watch Cardiff win matches. Never been an "all about the taking part" type of guy.

So you'd want Cardiff to win but would enjoy the overall experience with your mates even if they didn't then :hehe:
-
Re: Anybody else really enjoy that?
All you want is effort and commitment, losing with that gives you hope.

Depends what mood my mates are in 😂 but I read your post as if you enjoyed the game. I would have left the ground thinking," well that was ****ing frustrating and overall I didn't enjoy that 90 minutes". I wouldn't think, " but at least Darren made a cracking joke at 56 minutes". In waffling now😂 I wouldn't have enjoyed it overall. The end 😂

yeah I did actually walk away from that having enjoyed the football, we were basically attacking for the entire second half and that was a pleasant change. It was frustrating though. Jeez what a waste of internet this little exchange has been :hehe:

Re: Anybody else really enjoy that?
No City fan can fault the effort of the team today.
We lacked quality in the final 1/3 to open them up - that’s all we lacked today.
Best in weeks.

Against an average Reading team who have loads of injuries, not good enough.

Re: Anybody else really enjoy that?
I suppose it just goes to show how bad it has been that some enjoyed losing home to a midtable team.

I was thinking exactly that.
We lost at home to an injury ravaged, mid table Reading team. No, it wasn't as bad as losing 5-1 at Blackburn and being stuffed by West Brom but footballing wise it wasn't great. We could still be playing now and wouldn't have scored.
-
Re: Anybody else really enjoy that?
I think our expectations have diminished so much. It wasn't awful but let's be honest, Reading outside of their penalty area and one Hoilett shot were pretty awful and we still didn't create much.
Lots of shots which didn't threaten, decent pressure. I don't remember their keeper having much to do but act like he'd been shot.

He made a couple great saves in the second half and we hit inside of post - we should have scored really
-
Re: Anybody else really enjoy that?
We've gone in six weeks from the aim being play offs to 3 points off bottom and being happy with a 1-0 defeat at home to Reading.
It has crazy how low we have sunk and expectations have lowered.
For me, if Tan isn't interested any more then he should do all he can to sell us. The two he has in charge failed to run us well with the PL and parachute money. They're almost guaranteed to fail while steering us through the pound shop version of running a football club regardless of who is manager.

tbh Darren hasn't been on good form lately so it's good to see him proving his doubters wrong.

Very true, he's been letting the team down

Yea from a cross wasn't it.
Fair play if he made good great savesx I was wrong. I don't remember them though.

And an added ten minutes was testimony to that yet not one Reading player booked, the time wasting was obviously noted yet not punished, why?

100% effort, but about 1% quality. Reading were mediocre and we never looked like breaking them down. I thought it was grim.

They were injured, however much they made of it if they go down on the pitch and claim they are hurt they are entitled to physio.
First was injured, he was in discomfort prior to going down the first time. Was a weird one though, not sure what the problem was. Second time he took the piss and yes should have had a card considering he walked most of the way off.
Keeper was caught, probably wasn't hurt, we all know that but it's hard for the ref to book him for it.
Beyond that there wasn't much more than usual from a team hanging on.
And for once he did stick on a decent amount, was half expecting 5 or 6.

the Biscuit Men are obviously Hob Nob'ing with the officials..

Re: Anybody else really enjoy that?
If the ref performed like that on Reading’s behalf for free, they owe him big time.

I have left the ground having enjoyed a game we had lost i also remember watching a one nil win under Malky and wanting the final whistle to go after about 50 minutes it was so bad

Each to their own mate. The result is all that matters to me, as soon as that final whistle blows, if we've won I'm buzzing, if we've lost I'm down

Re: Anybody else really enjoy that?
Yes I enjoyed it. We clearly tried to play more football and less hoofball today. The performance was a step in the right direction even if the result was disappointing.
People can say it’s an injury ravaged Reading team but it’s a team that included Premier league winner Danny Drinkwater, experienced centre half’s pairing Scott Dann and Liam Moore, Hoilett, Jon Swift, a guy they paid 8m for upfront. It was a certainly a more experienced side than ours.

You kept saying Hoiletts legs had gone and now it’s a positive.

They have gone. I am explaining that it was far from an injury ravaged Reading side you mug.

I thought Liam Moore was excellent, handled our Moore superbly. Swift is a wonderful player when he's on form and made some of our lot look a little silly once or twice, same for Ejaria. I think it was a vast improvement from ourselves, no doubt helped by the absence of Vaulks, but there were a few occasions where I feel if Reading were a more confident side they could have caused some real damage. I was also disappointed that McCarthy reverted to type at the end by bringing on Vaulks & Collins.
You are right though, Reading's team wasn't exactly a bunch of kids and contained some real talent
-
Re: Anybody else really enjoy that?
You get out what you put in and mick putting in two centre backs at wing back again meant 95% of crosses were comfortably dealt with by Reading’s centre halves. We were never in a million years scoring off a brown cross, they were high, miles away from Moore being able to do anything. Wonder what might’ve been had we had two wing backs that could swing in a decent cross.
On the plus side good to have Ralls back. And McGuinness did ok out of position again, have to wonder how he’s not been deemed good enough in recent weeks to get in ahead of Nelson and co at centre back.
We’re in bigger trouble than I thought if people think that was a good performance. More effort yeah (bare minimum expected) but completely devoid of quality again.
-
Re: Anybody else really enjoy that?
Well at least we didn’t play 5 centre-backs.
-
Re: Anybody else really enjoy that?
If you can’t enjoy a home defeat to Reading’s reserves courtesy of a goal scored by an ex-City winger who was released in the summer because his legs had gone, what can you enjoy?
