The Sinking ship down West
Seems Grimes who I really rate is off to Coventry.
1st of the rats to leave.

Re: The Sinking ship down West
it's not really a sinking ship, it's just their business model, they've fairly regularly sold players for decent money at this level (less so recently).
it's an area we are also now looking do do more in, like selling McGuiness at the start of the season

Chambers and Ralls didn't give him a touch, the dirty little rat.
Talking of rats did Darling sign or is he still free at the end of the season?

Just checked, and no he refused to sign, so another one leaving at the end of the season.

Re: The Sinking ship down West
I think he's had enough there. Gets a lot of stick.
Their deluded fans describe Cooper and Martin as failures. Stupid tw@ts.

I don't think selling the club captain who's been there almost a decade is part of the business model
Rodon, James etc very much part of that model, but I think they may have expected for Grimes to be staying around

But their ship is going down the table = sinking.

You scuppered his post then. :hehe:

Re: The Sinking ship down West
He’s been subject to an offer from Watford, which would substantially increase his salary, so surprised if Coventry top that.

Watford get no parachute payments this season, so I doubt their budget is much bigger than Coventry’s. Just a guess, though.

It needs to be much bigger. They've still got 46 managers to pay off from the last 18 months.

Not exactly a big move is it?

Grimes is a decent 29 year-old Championship midfielder. Who else would you expect to be interested in him at this stage of his career?

They did love him, that's quite a big problem for them to be losing two of their better players.

Great lose him and Grimes, not won in five, lost four of them, battered in the last two, they could get dragged into a relegation battle only three points above us now, in terrible form.

it's still a very close division, they could easily string a few wins together and get themselves safe

Yes for sure, it's all to play for, but the momentum currently is downwards for them.

Hes 30 this year, not sure they will get stupid money for him. Their business model in the past, not sure so much under this regime, was to cash in on their young star players, or players who had justhad a great season ie Michu, Bony.etc and get top dollar for them. Huw Jenkins was very good in that respect. Think Grimes is past the point of being sold for his optimum value.

Cov will be paying close to £3.5m for Grimes , just the structure of the deal to finalise, hardly a steel IMHO

yeah they're definitely not doing it as well as they have in the past, I don't think they sold anyone of note last season, so that's probably forcing their hand a bit too.

Re: The Sinking ship down West
Not really that arsed about what Swansea are doing, but that's surely a massive blow for them, even if he is nearly 30. Especially if he's asked to leave.
He's absolutely integral to the way they play and obviously a massive character in their dressing room - didn't Luke Williams say earlier this season that he lets him do the team talks?

They are presumably still ironing out the deal.

3.5m is not stupid money though is it. Its chicken feed in todays football market. To replace Grimes with a younger version they would need to spend easily 2m to get a league 1 player with potential, so hardly any profit to be made from the deal and they are losing arguably their best player. Certainly top 3.
Not like the days when they were regualrly selling players for north of 15 million. Gylfi went for a reported 40 million. Bony 30m. Ayew 25m,etc,etc,etc.
Jenkins was the Welsh Daniel Levy. He drove a hard bargain.
-
Re: The Sinking ship down West
I’m really hoping that they’re unable to pay over the odds salaries to get mercenaries down there anymore.

True , Sheffield United looking at Darling, who has refused to sign a new deal as of writing , looks like the club is looking downward and in decline for the first time in decade or more
Lovely :hehe:

Swansea were always pretty good at bringing in replacement players after selling, they would get them up and running quickly, then sell them on at a profit. That's stalled over the past few seasons and it's something they have relied on hugely. They could start to really struggle unless this new lot invest.

Swansea City officials have received 'death threats'

Oh Bless death threats because we battered them.
Grimes exit would leave Swans with another hole to fill
Matt Grimes has played in all but four of Swansea City's 305 league games since relegation from the top flight in 2018.
