Re: Manager Linked -Richie Wellens
I wouldn't mind Wellens, he's done a very good job at Orient
-
Re: Manager Linked -Richie Wellens
I would also consider Ian Evatt - I think his style of play would suit our players

I know nothing about Wellens, but remember those two brothers who did really well at Lincoln? I watched a video on their training methods at whatever club they went to after Lincoln, and they were both raving, seemed to be suffering from Coachingbadgeittis. Whatever happened to them?

Just missed out on a league 2 playoff spot with Colchester.

They’re currently at Colchester. The Cowley brothers.

I wouldn’t be against it, didn’t Birmingham do something similar with their manager and they were in a mess when they went down

Re: Manager Linked -Richie Wellens
Elphick is now 2-1 Fav
Buckingham please no is 4-1 2nd fav
Probably just a few speculative bets.
I've got a horrible feeling its going to be Buckingham

I quite like Richie Wellens as an option, he’s got a good personality, his sides are good to watch and he knows the muck & bullets of the division. He might bring Charlie Kelman with him!

Re: Manager Linked -Richie Wellens
Gareth Southgate, 33-1 :hehe:

Re: Manager Linked -Richie Wellens
Who was the last manager we hired when we had to pay compensation?
I just don't see it being anyone in employment.
Given the rate of sackings it's not such a big deal, more important is the recruitment process.
It just means we can probably rule out anyone in work.

Don't think you'd like their football.

Think Wellens would be an exciting and sensible appointment - the Cardiff factor might mean it would end up being too much of a challenge for him, but, given his managerial career so far, he'd be the first Cardiff manager in years that I'd be welcoming as a good choice at the time of his appointment.

It’s that baggage isn’t it. I know I couldn’t do it. Throughout my working career, I had to be the decision maker, I couldn’t cope with bureaucracy and having to wait on people with limited knowledge of the situation. If you want me to do a job, give me the power & get out of my way!

One reason I'm not that against Ramsey getting the job is that I feel he would have the clout to tell Tan he needed promises that certain changes to Cardiff's "infrastructure' would be set in place or were going to be shortly before he accepted the job and he'd get what he wanted - I'd be surprised if someone like a Wellens would be able to do that though

that's interesting considering how he likes to play football
Wellens favours his teams to play attacking football, believing long ball and defensive minded football to not be suitable to long-term success. He cites former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson as a major influence on his approach. Using a preferred formation of 4-2-3-1, Wellens likes his teams to play out from the back and be patient, Wellens likes his player to maintain a high level of intensity, even during training sessions
If above is true basically carrying on what Bulut tried to adopt when he was here
I notice he was on the short list for Manager of the season for League 1 being pipped by Chris Davies
-
Re: Manager Linked -Richie Wellens
Absolute tool of a fella is Evatt
Utterly despised at Bolton and makes Steve Morrison appear personable

Think the bit about attacking football reveals a big difference between Wellens and Bulut - our former manager didn't mind playing attacking football in cup games or pre season friendlies, but we saw very little of it when there were league points at stake.

Re: Manager Linked -Richie Wellens
I find it significantly easier to analyse players than managers. You can see a players attributes and always have a backup. Very easy (as we've seen) to pick a dud.
I can't see many managers dropping into League One so may end up being a punt on a up-and-comer from that division.

Out of curiosity why "please no" or "horrible feeling" for Des Buckingham?
- Young but experienced manager
- Very good track record
- Proven (and very recent) experience of getting out of the league we're now in (with a team that hadn't been in the Championship for 25 years)
- Controversially sacked with his team in 20th place (they ended up finishing 17th)
Most people would say he'd be a fairly sound appointment?

Re: Manager Linked -Richie Wellens
I'm not a gambler. I hate it, but i've just put half a grand on Tony Bönjövi. He's an outsider i think could work for us .

Does it even matter who the manager is? One decent one in 12 years for the Tan regime and he was retirement age……

Good to see you’ve finally moved on from grizzling about Darren Purse getting the job. 🤣

I havent looked into it too much but didn't Buckingham inherit Liam Mannings side who were already doing well when he left them.
Then sacked a few months into the season and a old hand like Rowett improves them.
I'm not at all convinced by Buckingham. Same with Rob Edwards though I'd prefer him over Buckingham.
Anyway I want Warnock with Ramsey as head coach and Perry Ng made club captain so TLG can take over from me as chief grizzler.🤣

He took over from Manning at the start of November (who himself hadn't been there long). So still a fair bit of work to do to get them up.
I'm also skeptical if 20th to 17th is that much of an improvement, although it's a fair point.
Also shouldn't discount that he's won titles and broken records with previously unsuccessful teams in smaller leagues. And apparently while playing attacking, fearless football.
Regardless, any coach who can turn Mark Harris into a 20-goal a season striker must have something about them.
