Fans hit by car at Liverpool FC Parade
Not much information available right now, but having seen footage online, it looks 100% deliberate and I would be very surprised if there are no fatalities.
Absolutely horrendous, imagine having a day of happiness and celebration turn into abject horror. Credit to the fans who managed to surround the vehicle to prevent it doing anymore damage and for the emergency services for responding very quickly, or it could have been even worse.
My heart goes out to all the friends and family affected, as well as all Liverpool fans.

Seen the video. Definitely deliberate and absolutely shocking
Sad, sad world

Re: Probable terrorist attack at Liverpool FC Parade
There is no way of stopping these types of attacks which are getting more common and my worry is when they start doing it in provincial towns with a massive lack of police response.
Heart goes out to everyone affected. Absolutely disgusting.

It's definitely a recent phenomenon, and I wish there was more available to stop them from happening.

Re: Probable terrorist attack at Liverpool FC Parade
Awful footage on X.
Can we not though refer to it as a 'probable terrorist attack', as not much information has been released, other than the police saying that a 53 year old white British man has been arrested.

Yes the heading of this thread needs to be altered. Very much jumping to conclusions by the opening poster with no shred of evidence.

After the rioting that followed the Southport stabbings, it's no wonder that the police were quick to release the details of the chap they arrested.

Poor choice of words for the OP headline.

Re: Fans hit by car at Liverpool FC Parade
Having seen the footage, it was done deliberately and not accidentally. Maybe "terrorism" isn't the 100% right word, but it was done deliberately.

‘Maybe’ ‘Maybe’??? It’s bloody 100% not the right word. It’s the type of word that spreads like wildfire, a word that’s likely to bring meatheads & knuckledraggers out of the woodwork wanting to believe it. Think first before putting potential lies online.

Changed now, which is sensible

Re: Fans hit by car at Liverpool FC Parade
Local white male 52 yrs old,why ?
-
Re: Fans hit by car at Liverpool FC Parade
For all we know at the moment, the driver could have had a panic attack, or a heart attack or some other medical reason for what happened. He may have mental problems, or he might just have lost his mind completely. What ever the reason, it’s absolutely tragic for the victims and witnesses.
It will all become clear soon enough, but the way people just jump to conclusions when something like this happens, is both naïve and potentially dangerous.

Don't think he's the driver. Think the police arrested him for assaulting the driver.
Absolutely awful. I guess thes huge parades are really susceptible to it, but it looked like it was well in the city centre so should surely have been totally cordoned off?

What has led you to that conclusion?

Just what's being said on Liverpool Echo Facebook stuff.
And BBC saying now the police didn't say it was the driver who was arrested.

Re: Fans hit by car at Liverpool FC Parade
It was the driver who's been arrested. Just said in the press conference.

He was the driver.

Re: Fans hit by car at Liverpool FC Parade
Apologises for jumping the gun on assuming terrorism. Just thought enough lined up to assume as such, but I was incorrect.
Thank goodness it seems there are no fatalities.

Wow.
Where on earth do you get your information from?! Bonkers.

Where did the BBC or anyone say the only person arrested was arrested for assaulting the driver?
Why on earth would you say you "think" the person arrested was arrested for assaulting the driver?
It can't have been from social media as the videos are clear of the driver and were straight away so genuinely curious where you got your info from?

The BBC said the police didn't say he was the driver.
The Police have subsequently done a press conference and confirmed he is.

The wording was "We believe him to be the driver".
I think they phrase it like that so when it goes to trial, it's not something that can be used to call mistrial, to presume innocence before being proven guilty.
It's why police officers say "suspicion of crime", rather than just "crime", I guess unless they see it with their own eyes.

Tuerto, I've already firmly corrected what I heard. Why bring it up again if you are concerned?

You didn't correct anything, you were corrected. I'll leave it there.

I absolutely did correct myself. I typed it immediately as I was watching the press conference on the bBc news. I suspect TLG typed it the same time as I did.
Was very happy to correct the record.

I agree, the pictures look shocking, but you can’t rule out something like a panic attack on the information we have at the moment. Here’s hoping the two people being described as seriously injured make a full recovery.

Re: Fans hit by car at Liverpool FC Parade
from what I've read it seems he was going about 20mph and honking his horn to try to force his way through the crowd.
seems more like idiotic and reckless behaviour than actually trying to injure people, although thats not going to be any consolation to anyone who was hit by the car.
-
Re: Fans hit by car at Liverpool FC Parade
As usual these days, social media was an absolute cesspit last night.
Initially, there was a vitriolic outpouring of anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant abuse. Then, when it became clear that the driver was a middle-aged white British male, the right-wing snowflakes were up in arms that the police had dared to describe the man in custody as 'white'. Meanwhile, others were suggesting the police statements were a smokescreen to cover up the truth.
What a world we're living in.

I agree. It doesnt appear premeditated, he didnt plough into the supporters at high speed as weve seen in other cases of this nature. Seemed to me he panicked once they started bashing his car up and putting his windows through and that caused him to put his foot down futher and injure even more people.
Idiotic driving either way.

If they keep blaming Mulims & immigrants the masses tend to believe it.
