Re: AFC WIMBLEDON v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Another tough test to a team that are used to winning at home. BBM needs an away win to really convince some people we’re moving in the right direction. I think we’ll do it, 1-2 City!!!

Re: AFC WIMBLEDON v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
I think we're starting to gel now. We've got to start putting away wins on the board now and Wimbledon are a good team to start with.

Will have to watch out for cheating like this on Tuesday

Re: AFC WIMBLEDON v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
I wish there was a citing system in football to stamp out cheating like this. Automatic one match ban

Completely agree. Been saying that for years. No reason why it can't be done.

Wimbledon were pre-season favourites to finish bottom of the table and they are still one of the favourites for relegation. They finished 5th in League Two last season, seven points behind Port Vale. There is no reason to believe this game will be any tougher than the first away game.

How about AFC Wimbledon having 6 points from their 3 games including going to reading and winning? Port vale lost their 1st game so had zero points when we went there and still only have 2 now.
You say there is no reason to believe wimbledon will be tougher than port vale- could that be a reason?

of all the teams we've faced so far
, Rotherham finished highest in the league pyramid last season, and they were comfortably the worst

Re: AFC WIMBLEDON v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Wimbledon very much an un known quantity to us, having never played this incarnation in a league game.
They have had a good start to the season and are no mugs.
I think BBM will make a couple of changes to freshen up team, perhaps Chambers for Wintle and Isaac up top in place of Tanner or Ashford. If Robertson was fit I would rest Rubin.
We are 2nd in league so I am sure we will play with confidence.
CITY 2-0

Re: AFC WIMBLEDON v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
No mention of the effects on both clubs of having been affected by Hammam so far......
-
Re: AFC WIMBLEDON v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
- The only previous competitive meeting between AFC Wimbledon and Cardiff City was in the 2015-16 League Cup first round, with the Bluebirds winning 1-0.
- Cardiff have lost four and drawn one of their last five away league games against newly promoted opposition, last winning at Sheffield Wednesday in December 2023 (2-1).
- After beating Lincoln 2-0 on MD2, AFC Wimbledon could start a Football League season with wins in both of their opening two home games for the third time, after 2013-14 and 2024-25.
- Cardiff have won just two of their last 26 away league outings (D12 L12), drawing their first this season 0-0 at Port Vale.
FFS it's about time we started getting some W's on the board away from home.

Long shot: anyone heading to Plough Lane with a spare ticket to shift? Asked by a London based bluebird.

Excited for tonight
Expecting a boring 0-0 which usually happens when I'm excited

Re: AFC WIMBLEDON v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
A good friend of mine who was watching Wimbledon when they were originally non league pre Hammam said, “ Dons are dour and well organised so probably Cardiff will dominate possession. We shall see. Our good start has surprised me given our lack of money etc etc.”

Re: AFC WIMBLEDON v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Thinking back to the Port Vale game, City started in the same vein and they've done against Peterborough and Rotherham, but bit by bit we lost whatever rhythm we had and we started to get increasingly over run - I'm sure Wimbledon will try to do the same -knock us out of our rhythm, break up play, and counter attack. Of course, if we're that good then Wimbledon will struggle as we pass the ball around and through them, but assuming we're not there yet I wonder if BBM has a plan B.

Re: AFC WIMBLEDON v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Port Vale are a lot better than Posh. Turnbull came on and we absolutely dominated Vale, he's the key. If we keep the ball, we'll murder most sides in this league.

Agreed, if teams take us on in terms of possession and passing, then we will do most teams in this league. The group we have now are all pretty much championship level in my opinion, where they stand in the championship is down to personal opinion, but championship nevertheless. If i was manager of Wimbledon then i'd instruct my players to stop us from getting into a rhythm of play, disrupt at any cost and wait for mistakes to happen. I don't think that there will be many teams who will be able to take us on in the playing stakes, although that doesn't diminish the work rate i have seen in the limited amount of footage i've accessed, We work incredibly hard off the ball.

Assuming Turnbull is being rested for Saturday and maybe J Colwill’s energy is needed in midfield for this game
-
Re: AFC WIMBLEDON v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
I expect to win easily as this is the old Div 3 and we are the mighty Cardiff City. 0-2
-
Re: AFC WIMBLEDON v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Must be protecting Turnbull. I’m sure hell come on if needed.

I hope we don't get lulled into the trap of playing players that will combat them, rather than just focusing on being better than the opposition, which should be the case every week.
