The military and defence lobby also have to accept that times are tough
How far does this fear mongering have to stretch ?
Are we going to close hospitals and throw kids in care onto the streets to fund new rockets that are never going to be used ?
Surely if we have nuclear weapons pointed at Putin thats enough ?

the first priority of any government is the protection of its citizens. This is a clear failure on the part of the incumbent government.
however, Ukraine and Iran have shown that asymmetrical warfare is a very real thing, and that new forms of defence will need to be considered.

Its clear that there is running commentary to drastically cut welfare spending to fund defence
And when its suggested that if that occurs then surely it should be the biggest cost within the welfare budget ....pensions and the triple lock .....that should be slashed ..........the usual excuses come out
So there are two issues .......do we really need to spend all this money on defence ? Some big doubts about that
Can we fund the cost of defence through other means than the usual take it off those on universal credit etc etc
-

Why are you ignoring Red Ed's massive climate expenditure and the rush towards giant data centres that will consume huge amounts of energy.

It's the old adage
Guns or Butter
The ideal of course is guns and butter....but that is very difficult to achieve sadly.

Just as it’s no good millions of citizens living in a utopia that Putin can just walk in and take over.
It’s a fine balance.

I thought you were Mystic Meg (on a fence) not Organ Morgan. He was more Walter Mitty (in a bunker)!
Mind you, it was a double act of much unintended comedy.

Very true , this is probably the worst government in living memory. I wonder who’s responsible for their decision making as the majority of their policies have ever made sense and there has been u turn after u turn.

They apparently plan to produce their Defence Investment Plan tomorrow when all MP's will have gone home.
So no chance for a discussion in Parliament
I have just seen the Speakers reaction to this and the word incandescent springs to mind.
'Disgrace' and 'Appalling' are a couple of the words used
I saw him tell the Government off in the last parliament but I have never seen him so angry and upset before

We’ve had basically the same policies in the UK for sixteen years - austerity introduced to allegedly pay for the financial havoc wrought by greedy bankers. More than a decade and a half later, it’s clear austerity hasn’t worked and all we’ve got is an uglier country where the gap between richest and poorest grows ever wider.

Its all bollocks isnt it ?
Increase taxation towards defence spending ......and drop the ridulous scare story driven figures wanted by the army chiefs and tories ( who screwed up funding in the first place )
Look at cuts across the board in all departments to fund any increased spending
The triple lock is out of control if any spending needs slashing , big time .........
50 percent of welfare spending from DWP is on funding triple lock nonsense and other pensioner expenditure
Triple lock has cost 3 times more than was expected
PIP which aimed to replace Incapacity Benefit ....brought in by Maggie Thatcher ......was also brought in by the conservatives .....along with ESA ......these were supposed to make huge savings ...only 10 percent of those savings on the old benefits have happened
Its all very well stamping feet but the reality is very different from kemi badenoch mouthing off in the HOC ......

I use the term adult loosely.

You didn't mind the elderly freezing to death when your Labour party cut the heating allowance. If memory serves me right you said pensioners didn't need it.

I don't think that we avarage oiks really have enough knowledge about finance to decide as to whether 'austerity' should have continued or have been relaxed. What do you think about the national debt now being at 100% of GDP, having risen threefold in 18 years?
-

All females shave their legs , although each to their own of course.

I could tie you up in knots with this one , and your knowledge appears very limited indeed if this is your best reply.
