Re: 40 Killed In Hamas Attacks In Israel
I haven't read much about it but we must not forget that someone is supplying terrorists with weapons without which they would be limited to throwing stones, spears or petrol bombs. They are as guilty as the terrorists themselves. Despite all the security and blockades Israel seems incapable of cutting the supply routes for weapons!

Re: 40 Killed In Hamas Attacks In Israel
The idea that the Israeli army and Israeli defence and security forces are some of the best in the world has taken a hit and hamas will be more than happy with that

Re: 40 Killed In Hamas Attacks In Israel
According to Humans Right Watch white phosphorus has been used in Gaza.
If this is true this is mortifying.

1 million civilians also apparently told to leave Northern gaza within 24 hours.
We are about to witness a massacre.

I think it has something to do with giving indirect military assistance to a country that has 400,000 troops and nearly $4 billion of backing every year, against a mainly impoverished, soon-to-be starving population crammed into ghettos for the last 70 years. I think I'd rather tax-payers' money spend more judiciously..

The Royal Navy isn't there giving military assistance to the Gaza response though is it. It's not providing weapons. It's there, rightly, because this is where conflict is and there is an enormous amount of work that can and could be done to help. Aside from anything else, making Israelcm feel totally isolated is highly unlikely to make them respond more rationally.
I think people have the wrong idea about what that navy does and what it's doing here.

And yet some people are quibbling because Wembley won't be lit up blue and white in the colours of the Israeli flag and yet others are saying flying the Palestinian flag in support of the massacre of innocents should be outlawed! FFS!

I think you may be right on this one. If the role of the Navy is to aid possible evacuation and attempt to prevent escalation of the conflict then that's justified.
Where I think the US and USA are entirely wrong is giving "shoulder to shoulder" support for the systematic massacre of innocents. The two countries have blood on their hands in my opinion and of course they aren't the only ones.

Rightly ?
That's your view
Who is it helping ?
The Palestinians?
The Israelis are not going to listen to anybody but themselves

They are probably there to discourage any other countries in joining in this conflict and coming to the aid of the Palestinians. So their mere presence there is helping Israel

I think if JW thinks the Arab community are going to think oh yes the royal navy are helping Israel but its only strategically so that's OK he's being disingenuous or not really with the pace of things

Re: 40 Killed In Hamas Attacks In Israel
So why did Israel bomb Damascus and Aleppo airports? that doesn't seem to have had much mention

This is just like being in some sort of NATO strategy meeting, where CCMB comes to rescue the world and deliver it's solution to end the problem. Something that so far nobody else in the world has managed to fix.
Sludge - give yourself the weekend off lad, your work in solving and delivering this is truly awesome.

So you think the uk shouldn't be involved at all, and shouldn't be seen to be picking sides?
I am really coming round to that view as time passes, it's probably been a long process for me.
What is the ****in point of big shiny weapons when our own country is full of people who get paid so little that the cost of living crisis basically renders their lived untenable. Israel has some of the most advanced tech in the world and couldn't stop a rabble with guns killing them, now they are left embarrassed and thinking only of revenge.

Refugee Council ........the forced movement of people already traumatised will cause insurmountable problems
Israel ....basically tough luck
The people in intensive care beds , the elderly , the disabled , the vulnerable, children CANNOT be moved these distances south of the river in that space of time
So that's it then , it's going to be a massacre
So the seeds of hate that are already in the ground will be thrown in the air in greater numbers in the future
I hope the diplomacy kicking into gear prevents this madness ......and of course the shocking role of the hamas murderers is somehow softened ....but I think Israel is acting like a playground bully with nobody willing to take it on

The reason it hasn't been fixed is that the powers that be don't want to fix it, and that includes all sides.

Re: 40 Killed In Hamas Attacks In Israel
An Israeli and a Palestinian political commentator were just interviewed on sky news
Both very intelligent people who were a glimmer of hope
In total agreement that the only way forward is a 2 state solution where each side is respected
They called it their fate
At the moment that seems fantasy land but it must be the only thing to aim for
