Fair play to Walker though he did very well to get to that pass even though the defender didn't spot him.

Re: EUROS thread. Friday 21st June 2024.
They've got two teams there and with five subs they should be smashing teams in the second half, they are a total shambles Southgate hasn't got a clue.

Re: EUROS thread. Friday 21st June 2024.
Southgate might just end up like Alf Ramsey and win it by accident.
If my memory serves me right (I was only 14), Ramsey started the competition in 1966 with Greaves & Terry Paine playing. I believe both got injured, so instead of playing the other wingers in the squad, he went with what was called at the time “The Wingless Wonders”.
He didn’t bring his top scorer back (a thing Greaves never forgave him) and the rest is history.
Southgate is being pressured into change, so if they go on and win it, it’s not good management, it’s actually a weakness in Southgate and his beliefs in coaching

You can’t win a World Cup by accident 😂
If England win this tournament, then Southgate will deserve all the credit. If they disappoint, he will get sacked.
In 66 Alf Ramsay had all strikers fit for the final, and despite Coming under pressure to reinstate Greaves, he stuck to his guns and chose Hurst and Hunt. The rest is history, and AR deserved all the credit he got.

Greaves was first choice going into the finals and he was fit.
Just looked it up, Hurst had 5 caps, Greaves 51

That’s right. So Ramsay deserves the accolades for sticking with Hurst. It would be similar if England were to get to this final, and Kane is fully fit after an injury, but GS picks say Watkins, who scores the winning goal. All credit would have to go to the manager and his selection.

Great goal for Baumgartner, and RB Austria take the lead.

I was kinda rooting for Poland, as it would have been good to see the side who knocked us out, to do well at the finals.

So, you will concede that Ramsey found his best TEAM by accident (Greaves getting injured) !
Yes he stuck with it, but only after outside pressure
He “tinkered in 1970 as well, by taking Bobby Charlton off !!
That went well didn’t it

He was getting pressured to reinstate Greaves, not stick with Hurst.

Re: EUROS thread. Friday 21st June 2024.
France all that warm especially without Mbappe? Griezmann 33 and past his best. Thuram and Dembele quite average so far. Defensively sound but not clicking up front. Will probably win now with those three scoring.
-
Re: EUROS thread. Friday 21st June 2024.
They look nothing like favorites without Mbappe, although they should be ahead as how Rabiot and Griezmann managed to cock up that chance I have absolutely no idea.
Spain still streets ahead of any other team I've seen, with Germany second right now.

It's funny how some of the games you really look forward to end up leaving you feeling flat. This is one of them.
Agreed on your top 2, though it'll be interesting to see if we can add Portugal to that group after their game against Turkey tomorrow.

Typical Premier League officials taking an age to make a decision

Re: EUROS thread. Friday 21st June 2024.
Yup, VAR has genuinely been fast and unobtrusive in this tournament, until the usual Prem suspects get involved.

SATURDAY 22nd JUNE
GEORGIA v CZECHIA. 2pm
TURKEY v PORTUGAL. 5pm
BELGIUM v ROMANIA. 8pm

Re: EUROS thread. Saturday 22nd June 2024.
So I finally saw a game, it ended 0-0 and was ruined by VAR/PL referees.

So true, I'm enjoying this tournament more than I thought I would, teams are attacking more than I expected and, generally speaking, the fans have been great. The VAR system being so effective and efficient has also helped greatly, but then we get the English "how can we disallow this goal?" mentality involved and it's like watching the Premier League again - the outcome is what I'm pretty sure is the first 0-0 draw of the tournament courtesy of a ridiculous decision by the VAR official.
One other thought on last night's game, England have been getting a lot of stick for their uninspiring performances so far, but, France, with just an own goal scored in their first two games, are hardly looking like tournament favourites.

English VAR.... follows the narrative perfectly.

Both footed. Electric pace. A brilliant crosser. Threads the ball behind the lines with perfect weight when he plays from deep. Dribbling skills that must be close to the best on the planet. Can header the ball like a bullet. Deadly from free kicks. He can hammer the shot from distance with either foot. 15 goals in 30 international games, in a relatively poor international team. 6 foot tall, strong as an ox and he works hard to track back and tackle. For me, the complete attacking player.
This boy will light up this group for sure. If you ain’t seen him before, crack open a beer, order your favourite take-away, and enjoy the personal performance of a generational talent. This man is a class act. He is “The Tits”.

Georgia a goal up against the run of play via a correctly awarded penalty

Not sure against the run of play......terrific end to end...1-1 now....Georgia should have scored twice further this half.....what a difference to watching England....or France for that matter....This is a really enjoyable game.

Yawn. Petulant, grouchy little tit aren’t you? Selected your username well. How apt.
Don’t worry, there is a nice bit of news coming. I’ll play the same game and come back and remind you when it happens - often.
Should give me an occasional giggle but it will be very cringey for you 😂 Unlike you, Keyser has the patience of a saint, plays the long game, and I shall enjoy it.

Maybe it's an age thing cos this is a sentiment that would baffle my younger self but it feels like there's too much all at once. It's like having ice cream for every meal. Are people watching it all and happy to do so?

He might be a world beater, but he ain’t shown it YET !

I heard he might be heading to PSG to fill the vacant spot on the left after Mbappe's move to Real Madrid. There could also be some Premier League interest, as he wants to continue in Champions League.
