Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Luthra looks like he's signing for Derby - played in a friendly for them today.
He could flat-share with Adams perhaps.

3-1 win over Afan Lido in the 1st round of the Nathaniel MG Cup. Trey George and 2 for Cody Twose.

Decent squad this season; Nyakuhwa, Twose, Wigley, Beecher and Barton started on the bench.

Yeah, good strength in depth. I notice that Giles and Lawlor seem to be firmly with the u21s despite involvement with the 1st team at the end of last season.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Watching the U21's highlights Adeteye Gbadeham adds something that the U21 squad would otherwise have been missing. He's some physical specimen.

Even playing for the first team he's looked a unit.

Can't say he was that impressive in the two games I saw and I wasn't surprised he didn't go to Austria but he's one to keep an eye on this season. Reindorf looks like a different player for that level too. Whether he's going to put an end to playing Nyakuhwa up front we'll have to wait and see.
So many players at all levels of the club. I'm assuming we're confident of setting up some loan deals, even then we'll struggle to find game time for everyone I'd have thought.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
I just noticed that our u-18s and u-21s have got Brentford in their leagues this season. Their Academy has gone from Category 4 to Category 2 so after all that radical change and upheaval there we're now in the same position as them. Plus ca change and all that. Can't pretend I know much about the backstory, apologies if it's already come up on here.

Didn't the Premier League force them to have an academy? I guess if you're going to have on you might as well spend some money on it as a PL club

There's an article here from 2022 about the re-opening of their Academy. You're right about them being forced into it.
"There has been a recent change in Premier League rules which means that, by the start of the 2024/25 season, all Premier League clubs must have an Academy at Category Three level or higher. The opening of a Category Four Academy is a step towards eventually complying with the new regulations. It is also necessary to have an Academy in order to gain a licence to compete in UEFA competitions."

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
I suppose the thing with Brentford as well is it's all well and good them taking players that aren't wanted by larger clubs but they aren't then doing their part in the ecosystem to supply players that would mostly filter down.
It's ok if one or two clubs did it but if far more jacked in their academies to follow the Brentford model it of course wouldn't work out very well.
We all want to develop players that go into our teams or can be sold for good money but their is massive value in those players that don't make it at that level that are able to find clubs lower down the pyramid.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
No Weston at Weston for our u21s today, finished 1-1. Reindorf with the goal. Anyone go along?

I did. Not a great game but ok. Neither team created much. Reindorf looks good - as well as scoring he's strong and quick, carries the ball well and works hard. The other new signing Gbadehan looks decent too. Lawlor was solid at the back.
Former bluebird James Waite captained Weston.

That wasn't you singing "Darren Purse's barmy army" mid way through the 2nd half then!

Sadly not. I couldn't show off my U21s tifo either.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
3-1 win for the under 21s at Oxford yesterday, Jake Davies and Nyakuhwa with two the scorers for a team that included two trialists.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Another good win for the U21s in the Nathaniel MG Cup 2nd round, 3-1 over Pontypridd. Should've been more apparently. Reindorf with a hat-trick.

He's impressed every time I've seen him so far. I shared the below when we signed him but worth sharing again. Really highly rated by Norwich fans 12 months ago, not sure what went wrong. Maybe u23s until end of December and see how he gets on, then an L1/L2 loan for second half of the the season.

First time I've seen him tonight and that report rings true. Loads of energy, a good physique, powerful, skilful and a real handful. No idea what's stopped him from progressing but there seems to be a lot of potential there. Very promising.

A decent performance, we were by far the better side but struggled to work the keeper enough. Still early in the season, understandable if things aren't quite flowing yet but there were plenty of good signs there. The full backs were impressive, Spiers won a late penalty and Beecher is rapid.
All very fluid, Mafico popped up everywhere, including at right back to let Spiers hang around as a number 10 for a while. I saw him do that for Kpakio last season too. Other players were rotating as well. It gives me a nosebleed to be honest but everyone seems comfortable with it. Should be an interesting season at that level.

Cheers for that. Sounds promising. Might still lose a few of these lads to loans yet which might hinder the fluidity but could be a fun watch this year.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Hopefully Reindorf will be involved somewhere along the line against Bristol Rovers in the League Cup - it’s beginning to sound as if he’s too good for under 21 level already and I wonder if we might see him loaned out before the window closes or, failing that, he may be loaned to a National League side, where the window doesn’t apply, sometime in the autumn.

He was on loan at Kettering last season and they play in the Southern League Premier Division Central. There's obviously a bit of a backstory here but if there's been an attitude or fitness problem with him in the past then there was no sign of it last night. I've only seen him the once so I won't get too carried away yet but I'll be interested to see what you and others make of him when the league games start up.

That's how it finished. Another goal for Reindorf, Wigley with the other.
Kpakio, Tom Davies, Ashford and Kieron Evans all started. Giles and Beecher started on the bench, we're covered for left backs at that level.

City's first under 21 league game of the season this lunchtime with Sheffield Wednesday visiting Cardiff City Stadium for a midday kick off - free entry to anyone who wants to go along, but I can't find any confirmation yet that the match will be streamed.

Wonder if we'll try and sort a loan for Ashford, isn't really an obvious route for him into the team at the moment

I think he’ll be in the squad for the Second Round game if fit. Bulut did say last season that Ashford would be part of the first team squad in 24/25, but I suppose it could happen now depending on whether he gets fit before the window closes and who else we bring in the next few weeks.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
1-0 to Wednesday at half time, they scored early could have had a few more but for some good saves. We improved a bit as the half went on, but we can count ourselves lucky to be just the one goal down
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
City had a real go in the second half and had a lot of possession and territory, but I can’t remember the Wednesday keeper being really tested. It finished 1-0 and really it was like so many first team home games you’ve seen in these last four years or so.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Wednesday were physically much stronger and quicker than City- they were able to swat away City's attacks and win the ball almost at will in defensive areas. It looked like men against boys- hopefully that's reflected in the relative ages of the sides.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Agree with the sentiments posted; SW seemed to be happy to sit back in the 2nd half and it was difficult to find a way through but there were a couple of times where a better final ball could have led to an equaliser. They didn't create much either after the break. Nice to see we have a few players who are able to outpace defenders, and on a couple of occasions a marauding centre-half in Edwards.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
City Under 18s 1-0 up against Birmingham at half time, Ossian Rees the scorer.
