Finished 2-0, Lennon Talbot with the second goal.
Here’s the City under 21 team just about to kick off today at Wigan.

What has happened with Morgan Wigley?
He appeared to be on the verge of a breakthrough (cup games, training with first team) a seasons or two back, but has dropped off the radar. On the bench today.
0 - 2 at H/T - Twose (30) and Jeffries (38)

Finished 3-1, think Morgan Wigley was injured for much of last season Jon.
There's an article here from last December where Bulut says that Wigley had been training with the first team. It seems like he can't remember Wigley's name but 'the left winger who was injured for 8 months' is fine.

He's been playing u-21s since without making too much impression as far as I'm aware, still didn't look 100% fit when I saw him. Jefferies seems to have overtaken him for now.
Thanks for that, Morgan's not been a man of the match candidate in any of the under 21 matches I've seen at the back end oflast season and the beginning of this one, he goes on the occasional run where he shows his pace and directness, but he's been turning over possesson a lot.
Just watched the highlights of the Wigan win on the club website and I was struck by the positions the two full backs got into when we were attacking at 0-0, it was very much front foot football and, although I'm not saying they should both start on Sunday, there are facets of the game already where I'd say Kpakio and Giles are at least the equals of the current first choice full back selections.
Over the past 10 years or so the full back position is probably the one where we've differed most from the views of the first team manager. The Academy and under-21s have had a succession of enterprising and pacy players in that position while the seniors have usually had someone more prosaic playing there. To be fair, while we've been pushing the claims of a few adventurous types, not much has become of them. Even Drameh.
They're eye-catching though and Kpakio certainly comes into that category. I'd say he had enough issues against Reading and Bristol Rovers to suggest he's not quite ready for Championhip football yet but he's come out in credit both times for me and those two games were probably much more beneficial to him than Penybont was.
Southampton will be another good test for him. Giles too. I tend not to notice Giles so much, he's less flamboyant than Kpakio but that might favour him here in the long run. The ball in for Robinson against Reading was quality and it was interesting to see he got the nod for the free kick outside the box against Wigan. He's obviously a talented lad.
It looked like front foot football at Wigan, yes. A bit off topic but I like the way Reindorf wants to make things happen rather than waiting for the action to come to him, which is a bit like waiting for Godot if you're a City centre forward. The last half hour of the Rovers cup-tie was a good watch as him, Tanner, Evans, Colwill and the full backs were on the front foot and pushed for a second rather than settle for a 1-0 win. Fagan Walcott spraying out some nice passes from the back too. It was refreshing but I guess that's how young players want to play it in that situation. It was funny to see Rinomhota trying to calm them down a bit at times like he was their dad.
All I’ll say is that at many other clubs in circumstances like ours, the time when a decision needs to be made as to whether to stick with the same old, failing, senior pros or start considering utilising what is widely regarded as the best crop of youngsters in recent years would be getting pretty close.
The catalyst for the most enjoyable, attacking we’ve seen so far this season was when the youngsters started running things against Bristol Rovers and, although you can’t read too much into what happens in friendlies, I thought there were occasions in our pre season programme when the attacking play stepped up a gear when the younger players came on.
In saying that, I think things would have to get a lot worse yet before this manager would make such a change, but, especially at home, I think an injection of youthful energy and positivity in one or two areas could well reap dividends.
Yes, after the Sunderland game and the first hour of the Rovers game it felt like we hadn't moved on at all at home but the youngsters freshened things up and gave us a rare impetus that night. Of course, the issue is whether those youngsters would add dynamism and positivity to the team or would they just get exposed at Championship level. I can see both sides but it's going to be very frustrating if we continue to let home games, especially, just dribble away without trying to change anything.
I was even wondering during the Rovers game whether Bulut feels that possession is an end in itself in that it wears the opposition down and then you can expose them at the end. There may be an element of logic in that but you still need the personnel to take advantage, especially if you're behind going into the final quarter, as we so often are. And, surely, there should be more of an effort to capitalise on possession in the earlier stages of games too.
I accept that youngsters have to make themselves worthy of a place but let's hope Bulut sees the positives that they can bring to a team and doesn't freeze them all out here.
If you’re looking for something to do on this Bank Holiday Monday, you may want to go along to Cardiff City Stadium to watch the under 21s play Fleetwood, kick off is at 2 o clock and I assume it will be streamed as usual.
Two good finishes has us two up.
There was a discussion about Morgan Wigley on here last week, well he’s been the difference maker so far today with a nice finish for the first goal and a fine run and cross to set up Baylin Johnson for the second one.
Finished 2-0, don’t know anything about the Fleetwood team, but they were bigger than us in most areas of the pitch, so that suggests they were older than us - a good win considering we had so many “first teamers” missing.
Luey Giles, Tom Davies, Eli King, Rubin Colwill & Cian Ashford in the Wales u21 squad

The under 21s in action again today at Birmingham, doubt it if the game is being streamed - fair play to City, there are very few other clubs that offer free streams of their under 21 matches like we do.
Definitely.
It seems such a low cost way to get some interest into the players coming through, a number of which we have seen make the first team in recent seasons.
The last game was quite basic coverage, which in itself is fine but usually to be fair they have great coverage with a couple of commentators, one of which has even done some research on the opposition team.
No Lawlor, Kpakio, Beecher, Reindorf and Davies T in the line-up for Birmingham. Possible loans/first team involvement/injury?
Isaac Jefferies and Morgan Wigley on the scoresheet for City who lead 4-3 against opponents down to ten men.
Finished 4-3, Trey George and Will Spiers with the other two goals.
A 2-2 draw for the u-18s today. Two down at half time but Sheffield United had a player sent off on the hour and we equalised in the 91st minute through Jake Davies (Leeyon Phelan had scored our first in the 78th). Dan Ola then hit the bar four minutes into injury time before Jake Davies won a penalty two minutes later but Mannie Barton had his shot saved. I went to the wrong game today.
Highlights here.

A nice goal for our third but, while credit is due for the opportunism of the other three, I wouldn't have fancied the video analysis session if I was one of Birmingham's left-sided defensive unit.
Luey Giles was training with the Wales seniors today apparently
He looks decent, from what i have seen. I know it's the wrong thread, but i did like the look of Eli king against Bristol Rovers. He did make some poor long range passes, but i put that down to wanting it a bit too much. What impressed me was his urgency, he wanted the ball, looked to play quickly. I haven't seen him like others have, but there could be something to work with.
Ronan Kpakio captaining Wales u18s away to Czechia, Jac Thomas & Jake Davies also playing

Getting Warren Feeney and Djibril Cisse in the same sentence might be an internet first, well done.
The under-19s have a couple of games coming up too. Dakarai Mafico, Cody Twose and Trey George are in the squad, Luey Giles has moved up to the under-21s, Dylan Lawlor has pulled out with injury.
Not sure where Josh Beecher is but with Giles, Tom Davies and Jac Thomas already with age group squads this week we're well represented at left back.
I like him, good technique as we saw with his assist v Rovers and he generally takes free kicks, only just turned 18 too so plenty of time to grow, I think most clubs would probably be looking at integrating him into the squad considering our lack of left back options but it doesn't like that will happen anytime soon
King's a good player, decent on the ball and brave in that he actually wants to receive it consistently, unlike some others, he also offers size and athleticism that we don't really have in our midfield. I wasn't surprised about him going out on loan purely because I think the manager basically wants an 11 of players that he's signed himself
