Yeah, he will have had the assurances to take the job. There was chat elsewhere that Choo had gone in with a derisory wage offer, that wasn't the case. However, reading between the lines, it's been a drawn out process to get to a position where everyone is happy.
I think it's been said elsewhere that VT must trust Ramsey, to give any concession to things like a restructure of staff. I think this is true. I would like to think they wouldn't promise things just to let him down, I would hope VT has that trust and respect in Ramsey.
Seriously, I think anything was a risk. We're a basket case, the options out there were a proper mixed bag. We could spend a fortune on Jones, who's a known hothead. Buckingham could potentially get eaten up by the size of the club (I know we are in League One, but the noise around us is surely much different to Oxford!). Evatt had big clashes with fans at Bolton. Or we could abroad and end up with another short term plan, where we turn over a load of players and staff into a new philosophy, for it not to work and we are in a similar predicament in League One as we have been in recent seasons.
Hopefully some positive movement on staff on the bench and around the club, a few signings and we can hit the ground running come August.
Thanks for this, I see where your coming from. Do you know if there was a genuine attempt for Jones having had the word he could be tempted or was it more a last ditch Hail Mary attempt that has made the club look a bit desperate as he quickly shuts it down?

I mentioned above it shouldn't have taken this long Bob, but I think they had to explore options. It sounds like he really impressed at interview and was the unanimous choice. I think if Ramsey hadn't been so demanding for change it probably wouldn't have taken as long as it has, I'm not sure it would've even got to the Nathan Jones interaction. Thats probably helped get things over the line in truth, with the sorts of ££ involved in compensation being put to better use to help realign the structure.
Time will tell and I saw someone on Twitter say that they don't believe Ramsey will let the club down and let's just hope the club don't let him down. It's up to the club to now deliver whatever they've promised him.

Isn't it ! Countries form governments quicker.
I'm disappointed if it's Ramsey. The club needs to return to the Championship before they become stuck in league 1, and I cannot see him advocating any other style of football than that which he's played for most of his career, a route I feel will just give us more endless, slow passing and meticulous build ups, which had little effect on Championship defences and will have even less effect in league 1. I don't get the Ramsey love-in. He's barely completed 7 full matches since his 'return', and for some unfathomable reason when the club has the opportunity to go for experience, they seem to be going straight back to inexperience..

Think we've missed the boat about hitting the ground running come August
Just like last year where we dragged the Bulut situation far too long hence the players we signed were signed too late and we weren't hitting the ground running last August . Top of my head Players like El Ghazi and Chambers weren't ready at the time
Whoever comes in will be a tough ask to get fully prepared for the first week of August . No doubt we will be scrambling for players mid to late July again in the transfer window unless Ramsey has been using his power behind the scenes already in tapping up players whether he gets the role or not

Apparently, young, inexperienced managers have done well in League 1 in recent seasons when it comes to winning the league and so that's another reason why I'm more optimistic about him than you. I've said before I've no clue as to how Ramsey will do as a manager, but I like that him getting the job should mean we we get at least some of the support staff with football knowledge that we've needed for years.
That said, I do wonder if Ramsey will address the mental issues which made us easy to beat last season - for me, we felt sorry for ourselves when things were going badly, heads dropped too quickly and we were not hard enough physically or mentally. The squad has to address the notion that they're a bunch of bottlers head on and I'm not sure Ramsey would be the manager to bring that about.

Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
At this stage we just need someone in.
If it is Ramsey so be it, I'm hoping that would at least signal some change in structure.
No one knows what sort of manager he will be.
It is amusing though, we would have essentially given the job to the guy that was caretaker when we were relegated. If that's your less glamorous name the fan base would be going nuts. (Well on social media at least).
I suppose there are risks with all the candidates reported, Buckingham maybe made the most sense but perhaps longer term of Ramsey brings about some change then it could work.
Is it even going to be him though? Still think I'll log on later to silence.

Jones signing a new deal with Charlton according to the Charlton journo who said there was no way he was leaving them a few days ago.

There was an attempt for sure, how it was led or got to that stage I've no idea.

We had 49 shots in his 3 games (1 of which was with ten men for over an hour) in charge mind, not bad for endless, slow passing and meticulous build ups.

Read the other board. They know full details of compensation how its to be paid etc etc. From an extremely reliable sauce.
He did announce Des Buckinghams appointment a few days earlier mind.🤣

I think we all agree that odds have meant nothing. However Nathan Jones has been backed into even money this morning. So someone has had a flutter.
Ramsey unchanged at 2-5.
Hopefully all the speculation ends today.

Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
Abbadanato has just tweeted to step back from Ramsey talk and new manager announcement likely until next week. If this is true then they really need to feck right off.!!!

Presume they want to get backroom staff sorted before going live.
CCS is also signed over to the FAW at the moment and covered in FAW branding at the moment because of the game tonight.

Hopefully the structure is realigned completely. If he gets some of this change through, I think Ramsey is already a good Cardiff manager.
I can see Chesterfield being the DOF or a similar role, and hopefully Ramsey gets an experienced assistant manager.

They haven’t put FAW branding up at CCS for Wales games for several years.

Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
when we dropped down i was as gutted as the next bluebird, but i decided to go all in with a new season ticket, and as ive not had a season ticket for a few years now, via various reason... coming straight outta low cash is one of them, and the fact i have not liked the managers, the players are 1 thing but the managers over the last few seasons... shockers!!! i pretty much avoided watching any games the last 6 months, i pledged a 1 man boycott, not only had i not gone down the city i wouldnt let that tripe infect my large screen tv lol...
then anyways yes we all know we were going down, and boom we went down in style lol
and so, there i am thinking back to the div 4 div 3 and so on times id be there wind rain snow, a earthquake wouldnt keep me away, im thinking im going to get me a new shiny season ticket, the manager talk back n forth was going up a notch and so i thought i doubt they will get NJ and low and behold hes been tied down big time, from the interst in him no doubt, charlton must have put it all out on the table... but now im hearing the news, that rambo is the new/new manager... after all this trash talk and what have you...
no... i wont be getting a season ticket with this lack of ambition, i will be watching games again, but if rambo gets the job and i knew rambo back in the days lol, top lad he used to come to my club where i was djing... but no if this is the ambition then ill keep my low cash deep in my pockets and hold onto it... im sure we will win many games, and i hope we climb out on the 1st attempt, but i want good value for money, and if they are not going in for a partly repitable seasoned manager with connections instead of rambo... no, not for me sorry

A person with no meaningful management experience replacing another? Sounds like a recipe for success.

Ramsey's not going to be our manager - he's going to play in Mexico... according to the Sun!

Can you really see Ramsey wanting to uproot his family to Mexico?
I don't disagree with your first paragraph incidentally

It strikes me that we have got to such a state as a club that respected posters like you are willing to considering believing the Sun - that is how bad our club is at not communicating or dare I say it sorting a managerial appointment out 🤔
-
Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
Haven't read the whole thread but tom cleverly odds on for Plymouth. As we are in exactly the same position as them- just relegated to league 1 was he linked with us at all?
-
Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
Judging by the videos doing the rounds of the Welsh players last night calling Ramsey “Gaffer”, I’m sure we’ll be put out of our (or into depending on your own view) misery in the next couple of days.

The club would have taken applications and done interviews by all accounts. You would assume said candidates are interested.
I don't know what's going on, as said above, they just dither about.

I agree unless something really put them off during the interview process. The danger with us having so many ex managers is that any prospective candidate could call them up and ask what it’s like working for VT. I imagine the references weren’t good ones.

The Sun have been right before and will be plenty of times again, but the point is that Thursday night it was supposed to be all done and dusted and now it doesn’t look as clear cut - it’s not so much whether Ramsey goes to Mexico or not, more where does it leave us if, for whatever reason, we cannot agree a deal with him?
-
Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
The word on social media is that Ramsey and the club are a long way apart on wages - they let it be leaked that Tan is willing to pay £5 million in compensation over a period of time to get Jones,, yet it seems we’re trying to get Ramsey on the cheap. Warnock made some very good free signings in the summer of 2017, but, surely, one lesson Tan should have learned by now is that City don’t tend to prosper when we try to cut corners financially.
