Should see Wales through to the Elite Round

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Think it’s still possible for us to finish third, but six points is the most you could get in a four team group and possibly finish in that position. Add in a goal difference of plus five and the fact we beat one of the teams that would be on six points and it’s hard to see another third place finisher having a better record than us.

League Cup game with Ipswich scheduled for this lunchtime against Ipswich for the Under 21s at Leckwith today, but, just as with the under 18 match at Portsmouth, will it go ahead?

The highlights of the u-18s game at Portsmouth should be worth watching. We went 3-0 down in stormy conditions, pulled it back to 3-3 (including a goal direct from a corner), they had a player sent off then their keeper made a great save at the end to keep it at 3-3. That's entertainment.

Here they are, just the goals though. Game of two halves this. Good value for all the spectators behind the one goal, if there'd been any. Jake Davies, Jac Thomas and Dan Ola with our goals.

Highlights of the under-21 game v Ipswich here too. I'd back Nyakuhwa to finish a one-on-one with the keeper every time but that would've cost me on Saturday.

Yes, there are a lot of CBs ahead of him.
Positive for the player and the club if we can sell them for some sort of fee if they're not going to progress to our 1st team.

Tsunoda is a strange one - had some good reviews in Belgium before his injury (playing in a bad side) and prior to going there he had been called up to the Japanese national side - yet he doesn't seem to have been in the clubs plans at all.
I can remember someone asking Bulut about him and he said he'd only seen him play once or something like that.
Maybe if he goes on loan *to a decent level* in the second half of the season then we can think about bringing him in next season - maybe let Goutas' contract expire and go with Chambers, Daland, Fish and Tsunoda.?

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Of course I trust that we’ve inserted a sell on clause, just in case……our hierarchy are obviously well up on such things.

We've drawn Chesterfield at home in the 3rd round of the FA Youth Cup. It's due to be played on December 10th at Leckwith Stadium, 19.00 kick off.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
The under 21s are in action this lunchtime at Millwall, kick off 1 o clock. It'll be interesting to see what the team looks like - I seem to be more in favour of Riza staying than most, but his reluctance to use players from the under 21s on the bench for the first team annoys me. Reindorf is the obvious example, but what Ashford was doing playing down here for the under 21s when we had so few attacking options on the bench at Sheffield is baffling (as was the non use of Willock) - there've been times when someone like Kpakip should have been there as well.

Id like to see the u21 players used more as well- as its the only way they will be able to get better amongst other things - however I wouldn't say that Riza was any more reluctant to use them than any of our previous managers - possibly Big Mick aside

It does seem to be a theme - a dogma that experienced players who've been underperforming week in week out are a better option than promising youngsters.

While taking the point that none of our recent managers have been particularly youngster friendly, I think someone like Steve Morison, and maybe one or two others, would have put Reindorf on the bench more. To be fair to Riza, other managers have had more options to pick from when it comes to the striking positions, but his faith in a player who has had no positive impact at all (Kanga) and another who has had very little positive impact (Meite) is mystifying. Ashford appears to be paying for a poor subs showing at Luton, despite him doing well when he had come against Norwich a few days later, but was he any worse that night than Meite and Kanga have been as a matter of course in recent months?

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
It’s annoying that we still refer to them as ‘young’ players. There’s a 17 year old who scored for Arsenal recently, ok he may be outstanding but they have plenty of other older squad members who are outstanding yet he still got game time. I can see why there is sometimes reluctance to add an untried player but involving one, given the amount of subs nowadays, isn’t too much too expect. 3 + 4 up against Plymouth the other week, perfect opportunity to shot someone like Reindorf on.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Great to see a podcast like this about the age group teams - I don’t agree with the way they talk about loans, but it’s still a great discussion.

It’s not going to be streamed I’m sure, but I’ve reached the stage where I’d watch it over the first team game if it was.
Under 18s also in action at Bournemouth today, kick off 12.00.

It also allows those underperforming older player a comfort zone knowing they aren't going to be out of the squad any time soon.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
So will Reindorf be with the U21’s or first team today?

No Reindorf or Ashford in the under 21s. Dylan Lawlor starts for the first time in a while.

City under 21s back in League action this afternoon when they face Bournemouth at Leckwith, kick off 2 o clock.
Presumably, the game will be streamed as usual.
