If this continues and England are 80 ish behind, they will still fancy themselves to chase 300+ in the 4th innings.

Based on what?
They've had all the conditions in their favour in all tests so far and have failed.
Catches win matches.

exactly and picking players that are fit might help

Re: Official Ashes Thread
Brilliant from Stokes. Hes given England a chance.

Re: Official Ashes Thread
Same old Aussies...always winning!
Bairstow should stick to bullying little protesters!
Love all the salty England fans hating on Cummins, Smith and Carey ! :hehe: Embarrassing.

Based on them chasing similar totals recently and having no option really if they want to stay in the series.

Re: Official Ashes Thread
Looks like this one might have provided an exciting conclusion, but tomorrows rain will produce a draw

Just not as recently as the last two tests.
I think they'll win if the weather holds out but would take weekend of bad weather to stop them winning.

Re: Official Ashes Thread
Definitely dont want to be chasing over 250. Game is the balance.
-
Re: Official Ashes Thread
They’ve finally got on the pitch at Headingley and Australia are effectively200-8 in bowler friendly conditions - Travis Head is still in though.
-
Re: Official Ashes Thread
another good test match, hopefully it's very boring for the next 8 overs though
-
Re: Official Ashes Thread
Bit of luck , but deserved in the final five overs
-
Re: Official Ashes Thread
Nicely set up for tomorrow , weather permitting.
Gut feeling 8s that Australia have enough about them to squeeze England out of the game.
However, only needs one substantial knock to tip the balance.

Re: Official Ashes Thread
why o why do they only allow white aristocrats to play the game , they have ruined it !!
-
Re: Official Ashes Thread
England rode their luck to not lose a wicket in their five overs, but, famous last words, I fancy them to win this one.
-
Re: Official Ashes Thread
Could definitely still go either way at lunch - England 153-4 with Brook and Stokes at the wicket.

I'd be tempted to move Wood and Broad up the order and tell them to tee off. Hopefully neither are required!

It's fascinating stuff and beautifully poised.

Worth a try - an innings like Wood’s in the first innings could be a momentum changer.

Re: Official Ashes Thread

Re: Official Ashes Thread
This series had had everything whichever way this match ends. There are so many people who don't like cricket particularly the long format. I feel sorry for each and everyone of them! To me no other sport comes close to it. I'm worn out today just watching it. I feel like I've played every ball personally since the second innings started.

Re: Official Ashes Thread
Great 4 days of cricket, constantly had me wondering if England were throwing it away at times. Stokes and Bairstow wickets seemed like a turning moment but Woakes and Brook stood firm, with Wood in search of boundaries at the end.
Entertaining stuff, and still something to play for at Old Trafford.

Re: Official Ashes Thread
Carrying too many injuries, ageing bowlers ? will lose series 1 - 3 .

Re: Official Ashes Thread
Don’t know if this should be in this thread, but England’s women’s team have just beaten the Australians again to level their Ashes series at 6-6 with two games to play. It’s three straight wins now for England over what was being described as the world’s greatest team. Australia never lose fifty over games, but they have today.
