Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Just been announced that it will be a predominantly under 21 side that takes on Yeovil in the upcoming game.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Another potential U21 signing according to WOL - former Villa midfielder Kyrie Pierre.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
This thread may have to be renamed The Bluebird’s Academy, DVP and First Team thread.

I hope it’s a loan - we haven’t got to the stage yet where he sees Barry as the bigger club have we?

Don't worry - he was released at the end of the season so was a free agent.

I was thinking of Jac Thomas the left back - he’ll probably be a regular in the under 21 team in the new season.

That's encouraging. You said Philogene was 'gash' and he went for £20m a couple of years later so we could be in the money here.

I also said Rhian Brewster was shite when he went for £23m to Sheff Utd and he was.
I still don't get the Philogene love in.

Never mind Brewster and Philogene, just concentrate on slagging our own players off. We'll have that debt cleared in no time.

My laptop battery isn't powerful enough to go through them all. But the hype some get is beyond me. Get relegated and people on here want the kids to play in a mans league. Most of them I wouldn't pay in washers.
£20m for someone that scored 2 Premier League goals and a 1 in 5 merchant in the Championship. No wonder clubs go to the wall.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Just watched the highlights of under 21s team's gsme at Barry on Saturday and, although I'm useless at recognising our players, our number looked a lot like Daland to me.
The Barry fans were not happy with the penalty award because Pearce looked well offside before he received the pass which put him in on goal to be fouled by their keeper, but a second look at it shows that he was inside his own half when the ball was played through to him.

It's definitely not Daland. I presume you mean number 5.?

Yes, number 5. I swear if the whole of our first team squad walked past me on the pavement outside my house, I wouldn't recognise half of them.

Is it an age thing? Someone gave me a couple of ‘Goal’ magazines from the late 60s/early 70s recently and I could name the players in team photos without checking quite easily, nowadays, I wouldn’t have a prayer.

Think it must be, I’d be exactly the same as you if I’d seen those Goal magazines.

Back in about 1979, I might well have answered those first three questions in the same way - there's no way I would have done that with the last two though!

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Anyone know what the other boards dislike of Purse is about? Whenever I read about the u21s there it's often followed by something negative regards Mr Purse.
Done an ok job at least for me, pathway through to the first team seems at it's best in a long time. Surely he has to be given some credit in that as that would be his main objective.

It's ridiculous. In the last couple of weeks they've beaten Barry, Yeovil and Ammanford (1st teams, not U21s), despite Lawlor, Kpakio, Giles, Spiers, Mafico, Wigley and Nyakuhwa being with the first team and Reindorf with Newport. Purse needs to be sacked though 🤦*♂️

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
There's definitely an agenda there, it seems to have ramped up since "the next big thing", (Lennon Peake) was released. AA was convinced Peake was going to be a world beater after talking to his parents on holiday.
At a time when there's little doubt we have more potential first team players coming through the ranks then I can remember, then all the hate aimed at Purse seems personal.

At the SLO meeting on Wednesday our new Head Coach specifically commented on how pleasantly surprised he was at the high standard of U21 players we have on top of those that have already made it to first team squad level.
