A real slog of a game in awkward conditions. City were probably slightly second best in a goalless first half, but were the better side in the second half when they scored twice in quick succession around the halfway point in the half. Keita’s goal came from him getting the second touch on a corner and Williams’ was the result of an incisive breakout that he finished well. The wurzels got a goal back with about ten minutes left, then City had to absorb some pressure, but we’re not troubled too much as they saw the game out well.

I know we speculate a lot and it doesn't usually come to anything but Will Spiers absence today was interesting. With Ng injured, Charlie O'Brien going off with a knock on Tuesday and Kpakio only just back after an injury himself there could be an issue at right back tomorrow. I'd expect Chambers to fill in if there was a problem but BBM has shown he's not scared to throw youngsters in so it's hard to second guess him.
No Perrett or Tankiewicz either but it's hard to see either of them making the squad. We'll see.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
5-1 win for the under 18s over Swindon this morning in the EPL Cup. Allmark and two each from Sykes and Hilaire-Clark.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Wales u-19s beat the Netherlands 2-0 today. Jac Thomas and Mannie Barton started, Barton scored with a penalty as he did in the defeat against the Swiss earlier in the week. England next up.
The under 18s lost to Sweden 3-1 having already lost to Ukraine. Jack Sykes, Hayden Allmark, Tiger Tobin and Noah Williams have each started one game so far. Having been to Japan in September they're on the Croatian coast this time round. Tough job but someone's got to do it.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
A sixth league win in a row for our under-18s today as they beat Watford 4-1. Jack Sykes (2), Harry Watts and Tiger Tobin with the goals.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
A loss at home to Cheltenham in the under-17s PDL Cup today. Centre half Thomas Prickett was sent off in the second minute, which is quite an achievement, but we still managed to lead 3-2 in the second half before losing 4-3. A couple of our first teamers got a run out, T-Jay Parfitt scored and Axel Donczew had an assist.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
2-2 draw at QPR tonight for the u-21s in the Premier League Cup. Decent result, QPR won it last year and we were 2-0 down at half time. Mafico and Perrett with the goals. Cody Twose was on the bench after a lengthy absence.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Strong side for thr u21s as they take on Bournemouth
Only one missing as far as I can see is Tankiewicz suggests a strong side tonight
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Lost 1 - 2 to Bournemouth. Troy Perrett with the goal.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
An awful goal.to.give away to lose the game. An attacking throw in their half to the back of our net in two phases!

Tankiewicz and Barton playing for the under-18s in the FA Youth Cup tonight.

Lost 1-0 to Cheltenham and it looked like Tankiewicz dislocated his shoulder early on too. I only saw the first half, we were poor and I don't remember their keeper touching the ball in the whole 45 minutes.
Saying that, it felt like a bit of a kick in the teeth for the lads to get a home tie then have it scheduled for when the first team are on tv. Only 132 there and it felt like the majority were from Cheltenham.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
A 4-1 win for the under-18s at Colchester on Saturday, Jack Sykes and Leeyon Phelan with two goals each.
The under-21s play QPR at Leckwith tomorrow evening. 19.00 kick off, free entry for spectators.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
The under-21s lost 3-2 tonight. Troy Perrett put us 1-0 up early on but QPR pressed us into mistakes, jumping on the central midfielders in particular (although Kingdon got caught out for their second), to deservedly go in 2-1 up at half time.
We had a bit of a reshuffle at half time, Jake Davies went on the wing and he won a penalty which Perrett converted but QPR continued to pounce on any indecision or loose pass and broke quickly in numbers. They got an excellent late winner but even a one goal defeat flattered us a bit.
Luey Giles played but I was a little surprised that Mafico and Nyakuhwa didn't get a run out. I'm not sure if BBM was there but no one was exactly demanding a first team spot. Perrett didn't do himself any harm though.

Would have thought Mafico would get a game here and there for the u21s, when's the last time he played for the firsts?
Perrett must be in consideration for a loan sometime soon surely? This is what his 2nd or 3rd season as u21 regular?

Yes, it feels like Perrett is treading water a bit. Maybe he's being kept here as a spare number 10 in case anything happens to Colwill but I wouldn't say he's quite at that level yet and a spell on loan would probably benefit him.
Mafico hasn't played for the first team since Exeter in mid September, hasn't played much for Wales either. It would've been a good test for him yesterday too. QPR were making us play inside then jumping on the centre-mids when they got it, Hayden Allmark got rolled over the same way in the youth cup the week before. It would've been interesting to see Mafico deal with it.

Guess its a trade off of the benefit of first team coaching versus youth team games that needs to be considered?
Would have thought they'd get the occasional game to maintain some level of match sharpness. Mafico's only 18 hardly a slight to ask him to play the occasional u21 match

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
The team for Tuesday v Arsenal u21s is going to be very young.
Per BBM's pre-Blackpool press conference, he will avoid playing some who will feature on Saturday, is losing loads down the age-groups to Wales, has a number of injuries (Rob Tankiewicz broken collar bone for one), and wants to let fans know early that the team will not be like the one put out for Newport!
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Noah Williams, Mannie Barton & Jac Thomas called up to Wales u19s
Alex Cross, Jacob Norris, Keano Conaty, Paul Moreno, Axel Donczew called up to Wales u17s
By my count that is Rubin Colwill, Joel Colwill, Dylan Lawlor, Ronan Kpakio, Dakari Mafico, Luey Giles, Cian Ashford, Tanatswa Nyakuhwa and the players listed above called up by various Wales squads. 16 players or so
We'll be dipping into the under 12s for players against Arsenal at this rate!

BBM was right to say that our situation is almost unique- no other team in the two lower leagues are going to have the number of youth internationals called up that we are even in times when we’re not doing as well when it comes to producing youth players. Realistically, we’ll have little chance of success in the whatever it’s called cup even if we stay at this level for a while.

I suppose it could still be reasonably strong, just annoying that we're missing younger players who had a shot of playing
In theory we could put out the following team:
Turner
Ng Chambers Osho Bagan
Turnbull Robertson
Davies Perrett Kellyman
Robinson

That’s not a bad team under the circumstances, but I think Ng’s injured isn’t he? Wouldn’t be surprised to see one of our younger centrebacks given a game.

Strong line up. Griffiths, Williams, Kingdon, Keita, Giles, Mafico, Apter, Perrett, Nyakuhwa, George and Pearce. I'm guessing that'll be close to the team for Wimbledon next week, with Spiers to come in (and Turner in goal).

No Perrett, Giles or Nyakuhwa for the u21s tonight as they lost to Burnley

Or Mafico (or Pearce) but Perrett is an interesting one. For me, he's lacked a bit of oomph when I've seen him this season (stop me if I'm getting too technical) but he's the only other regular number 10 and he's scored a few goals. If he's been impressing BBM then he could get a chance in the league before long.

Less of the coaching jargon please
On Perrett I thought he looked the pick of the bunch against Arsenal u21s and like you say is the only other regular number 10 so he could get a shot

u18s lost 3 - 0 to Swansea.

Spiers is the obvious one for me.
Kingdon at right back then, Giles at left back with Osho and one other at center back

Finished 1-1. No idea who scored.

Looks like Dabono will be involved.
