so now all the hysteria has calmed down lets do a 360 degrees turn and highlight the problems the cold can bring from the lancet journal . you won't find these stats on the 9 o clock news !

And yet if the world was getting progressively and dangerously colder rather than warmer through human actions, the gifted crowd on here would no doubt be saying there was nothing to be concerned about - it’s just what they do.

Having an opinion that’s different to yours is just that , nothing more.

Re: Yet some will have you believe that there’s nothing to see here.
35 degrees plus in parts of South America in the middle of their winter https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-08-...ists/102678662
We are in deep deep trouble.
But don't say things like that, they may come off as alarmist which isn't allowed.
At this point if you don't believe it's happening you are thick as shit.

Fantastic.
More people die from drinking water than drinking crude oil, must be safe, give it a go some time.
More people die from hiking than sky diving. Plummeting to earth is objectively safer than walking on it.
This is fun, totally unproductive but fun.

It only takes one glance to see it's dumb, it misses the whole point about temperatures going up, and it was published two years ago.
So it was always a prime candidate to find its way to this forum.

Patrick should stick to The Sky At Night: he obviously knows a lot more about that realm than the Earth.

The original Patrick Moore could be relied on to talk sense about the stars but was otherwise a racist, mysoginistic, fan of Enoch Powell. He did like cats, though, and opposed fox hunting and capital punishment (the examples he gave to 'prove' he wasn't a complete right wing nutter). He died in 2012:

This other Patrick Moore is a 76 year old Canadian former environmental campaigner who flipped (180 degrees, not 360 which would have put him back where he started!) and became a paid lobbyist and propagandist for the nuclear and petrochemical industries.
Donald Trump loves him. Greenpeace think he is a dangerous turncoat, and opinion for hire:

The Lancet is a world-leading source of clinical, public health, and global health knowledge just happened to post a link from this fella . This data has been used by a number of people this week

We're not talking about the Donald Trump who manages a food bank in Kirkaldy.
We mean the one that wants his tiny finger on the nuclear button again.
Anyone not 'obsessed' with Trump is weird in my opinion. Be obsessed. Be very obsessed!

Sometimes you do wonder why people are so obsessed with the “nuclear threat”. There isn’t one.

This is the summary from the Lancet study which shows that in the reference periods cold related deaths decreased and heat related deaths increased with the ratio between the two much narrowed. What was the point Patrick Moore and you were making?
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/l...081-4/fulltext
Globally, 5 083 173 deaths (95% empirical CI [eCI] 4 087 967–5 965 520) were associated with non-optimal temperatures per year, accounting for 9·43% (95% eCI 7·58–11·07) of all deaths (8·52% [6·19–10·47] were cold-related and 0·91% [0·56–1·36] were heat-related). There were 74 temperature-related excess deaths per 100 000 residents (95% eCI 60–87). The mortality burden varied geographically. Of all excess deaths, 2 617 322 (51·49%) occurred in Asia. Eastern Europe had the highest heat-related excess death rate and Sub-Saharan Africa had the highest cold-related excess death rate. From 2000–03 to 2016–19, the global cold-related excess death ratio changed by −0·51 percentage points (95% eCI −0·61 to −0·42) and the global heat-related excess death ratio increased by 0·21 percentage points (0·13–0·31), leading to a net reduction in the overall ratio. The largest decline in overall excess death ratio occurred in South-eastern Asia, whereas excess death ratio fluctuated in Southern Asia and Europe.
I also remember a poster who was so obsessed with Trump that for a few months he posted ludicrous "Stop the Steal" fantasies, none of which had any credence. I often wonder what happened to him.
