First T20 of the year, against a strong Surrey side. Enjoyed that 'stop' by timm. Smashed flush on the shoulder by an absolute rocket off the bat on his follow through. Ooohs and aahs all around. But his eyes never left the ball. Proper fast bowler mentality, f@ck the pain, my shoulders just saved 4 runs against me.
21/1 Jamie Mac wicket. Oh glammy glammy
Feck me a fielding comedy show. So many dropped catches and Marnus bowling like a ####!
Totally agree. We've given the Surrey/England mafia another chance to promote the utterly average Jamie smith as international class, by dropping him twice and bowling some Utter shite to him. Still, 146/7. We need to switch on now and take advantage of this, keep the foot on the throat and get that win on the board
McIlroy is a b1oody joke and boom boom another dropped catch.
Glad not paid money to watch this shambles.
Unfortunately I agree. Judging by the 1st innings. I'm predicting Spencer Johnson and his one delivery will see us bamboozle ourselves and be out for about that. Hopefully they prove us wrong. We've got a long and talented batting lineup, if we go out and attack we should do this Surrey team
Totally outplayed.
Wrong bowling selection.
Poor fielding and bowling enabling Surrey to get off the hook.
Good Surrey bowling.
Rabbits in the headlights and way off the mark.
Very disappointing home start.
We've got Marnus labushagne ,!!!
The most pathetic 50 Ingram ever has or ever will score. But I have a sneaky feeling he's just warmed up. Big 5 overs ahead
Edit: Run out next ball
Awful innings
They should have had a reasonable total to chase and not 200. Sloppy performance in the field.
Steve James acknowledged the dropped catches costed Glammy.
I feel like as a team we did enough to win that . Really comes down to 3 players and the coach for me . Unfortunately we had the guaranteed toxic performance from northeast, innings of 9/10 not as bad as normal admittedly, but backed it up with a shocking display in the field. Jamie mcillroy fell apart, can't quite understand what happened to him. Then Ingram played a northeast innings to completely destroy us. Coach gave us 4 bowling options, in a move reminiscent of mark alleyne.
But some great performances around that rubbish. I actually think we can have a good season in the t20
Really let them off the hook. Fielding was poor, despite doing well in restricting them to singles on a few occasions. Too many bad balls punished. I noted Surrey didn’t drop one opportunity and I can’t even recall a no ball or wide. That was the difference. Marnus/Ingram/Cooke spell was enjoyable.
Fear McIlroy has the yips... his action's all gone. Could take a while to get back, having played well last year.
You can understand not being able to match the bigger counties on the batting/bowling front, but there's no excuse not to match them on the fielding front - that was beyond pathetic.
Frustrating defeat yesterday. We were competitive throughout and even with the selection backfiring, the dropped catches and Ingram struggling to get going we still only lost by 19 runs so positives to take from it. I've literally no idea where posters were seeing 'rabbits in the headlights', 'way off the mark', 'totally outplayed', 'bloody joke', 'comedy show', 'shambles', toxic', 'rubbish', 'beyond pathetic' etc. Maybe they think we need the City match thread vibe on here? I'd beg to differ but each to their own, I guess.
Back in action at home against Sussex tomorrow at 2.30, hopefully we can hold our catches and get a win.
I was watching the Welsh women’s game, so saw very little of Glamorgan and therefore only have the scorecard to go by. On the face of it, they gave what is, player for player, the best county team in the country a decent enough game. We’re Glamorgan, traditionally one of the weaker counties, and we’re really missing Neser and haven’t adequately replaced Hogan yet - we had a combination of Labuschagne and Bevan as our fifth bowler and, just as in the four day game, the side looks a specialist bowler short.
The comments reflected the frustration people felt having witnessed probably the worst fielding display by a Glamorgan team in many years. Felt like a very good opportunity lost to beat a very good side.
Hoping for a decent crowd today given the weather - should be good down there.
Yeah, perfect for cricket today. It's always good down there, I've never felt I've wasted an afternoon or evening watching a 20/20, win or lose. If anyone's at a loose end later on I'd recommend going down (I'm not offering refunds if they don't enjoy it though)
I'm not Glamorgan's version of DML, there's always a place for criticism and gallows humour on here. We are where we are though, TOBW summed up the present situation perfectly, I think, and we have to accept that. I'm sure Taffy Blue thinks his grumpy old man schtick is hard hitting and hilarious but it jars a bit on here and I felt he dragged you and chrisp down to his level on Friday. No problem but it's a good thread this one, I wouldn't want it turning out like City ones where people feel they have to post something scathing or else they'll get labelled a happy-clapper.
The odd thing about the dropped catches, for me, was that they came in a decent enough fielding display otherwise. Plenty of energy and enthusiasm, runs saved (as Dave Blue said) and everyone encouraging each other. It was the same last season, I remember Billy Root dropping Will Smeed (never a good idea) and we had Sussex in trouble until someone dropped Shadab Khan, he went on to get eighty-odd and we lost that too. Feels a bit like City and penalty taking. Hopefully it'll pass soon, it's really going to hurt us if it doesn't.
Onwards and upwards. Enjoy the game.
I've got to be honest, I saw a bowling display that was good enough to skittle a strong batting side for 130, unfortunately backed up by all those 'catches'. The Friday night beers may well have amplified things, but I can't remember feeling that frustrated watching a game for a long time
As for my northeast frustration, it was maybe worded a bit strongly. But I'm so frustrated with the bloke. He's probably in the top 15 English T20 batsman, and his T20 record before joining us was great. But in games that count for us he just never seems to be able to match a decent score with a decent strike rate. Until today! So hoping that's an omen for the future .
Mind you saying that, I think we made a mistake today not having Marnus in the top 3(ideally opening). He scores more runs, and scores then quicker than anyone else we have.
Hoping we've got enough to defend, but certainly could have done with the extra 20 it looked like we'd get
Spinners are on fire, and the outfielders hands seem to have loosened/warmed up a bit. Looks like the first 2 points are almost in the bag, just need to close it out
Didn’t see much of the Glamorgan innings, but they’ve.bowled and fielded very well - this is going to be a pretty easy win by the standards of this competition.
well it was a win but not a brilliant batting performance and Marnus not used effectively. I hope there's a good review behind the scenes. much better in the field. did Sussex lose it rather than we won it?
Agree with you about the use of Marnus. We seem to be going with an IPL inspired long batting lineup. I think that can work, but only if the batters are used effectively and all buy into an attacking philosophy. Leaving the best batter til 6 is a waste.
This game did remind me of the old adage 'don't judge the pitch until both sides have batted on it' . Our what looked like par total actually looked like a well above par one after both sides had batted. Pitch really seemed to take turn, so I think we'd done well to put that 180 odd up.
Surrey smashed Somerset aswell today, by 57 runs to go 3 from 3. So it was a good side in good form we lost to on Friday. Doesn't make the self inflicted manner of the defeat any less frustrating, but I think it certainly shows that we've got the talent to compete with anyone. Quite liked the promotion of Cooke to 3, with a licence to hit. It was an aggressive move with the intent of getting the score moving quickly. Didn't fully pay off but was certainly the right idea and good to see.
Maybe Glamorgan can get the wickets to suit three leg spinners at Cardiff, but they’re going to need a better balanced ream for away games I’d have thought.
That said, it was good to see McIlroy looking more like the 2023 version of him yesterday.
I'm not up to speed with all this but, as far as I can make out, the story about Essex being charged with historic racism offences
https://www.insidethegames.biz/artic...racism-alleged
might have a knock-on effect for Glamorgan in the T20 Blast. Yorkshire were docked four points last season for similar offences.
It's tough for us in the South Group. Four can go through but not only were Surrey, Essex, Somerset and Hampshire the four semi-finalists last season, they're also the current top four in the County Championship First Division. Essex have already lost two T20 games this season and a points deduction would open the group up further. It wouldn't be easy even if Essex do drop out of the reckoning, Kent are rated higher than us by the bookies with Sussex and Gloucester seen at our level, but it would improve our chances of qualification.
A deduction for Essex and Surrey winning all their games would make it easier for us to go through, as it would for every other side in the group.
I don't see us a weak side though. There's a T20 world cup on at the moment, which has shorn the tournament of a lot of overseas players. We've got 2 absolute stars as overseas. We've got the strongest top 6 in the tournament (in my very humble opinion). In our 2 games we've battered Surrey(but blew it with fielding) and then battered Sussex.
I don't think we need to be too concerned about the rest, if we play well we will win enough games to qualify. I really don't see us as the 'plucky underdogs' that some seem to. We're a good T20 side, and with the T20 world cup lessening the player pool, I think this is probably our best chance in years to really make a mark
I hope you're right but T20 is so unpredictable. We've had two games so far, McIlroy went at 12 an over in the first, 4 an over in the second. The spare bowlers went for 51 in the first but Labuschagne and Ingram bowled 4 overs for 24 in the second. Labuschagne was our top scorer in the first but got bowled first ball in the second. We dropped crucial catches in the first but held everything in the second. Hard to know where we are for now.
The batting should see us trouble the best teams at some point, the bowling might mean we're going to take a couple of shellackings too. We need to take care of business against the weaker sides and hope we can get the wind in our sails against the big boys. We play Essex, Hampshire and Somerset after our trip to Lords tomorrow, the table should be starting to take shape by next Friday.
A Surrey fan at our game said we would batter the others in our league with our line up. It’s a very strong batting team I must say.
early start this evening 6-15:thumbup:
Gorvin, Podmore and Ben Kellaway are the back-up options for the next two games.
The 2nd XI had a T20 game yesterday. Harris, Sisodiya (didn't Phil Collins write a song about him once?), Root, Horton and Ul Hassan played but it looked like Will Smale and Henry Hurle took the honours.

Terrible start for Glammy with Middlesex making their best ever T20 opening stand at Lords of 108. But they turned it around after the first wkt skittling them all out for 173.
then Byrom gets impatient:facepalm:
With 10 overs gone I'd have bitten someone's hand off to chase 220. Thought we were looking at 240/250. Dare I say it, looks like it should be a cruise from here ! Hopefully Carlson keeps going, and Sam just accumalates. Suns out at lords aswell, lovely night !
