Can’t remember Glamorgan tying a game before - an incredible match, but it doesn’t do either side any good really.
Bloody hell. What a match. Combined scores of 376 in the 1st innings and 1,202 in the 2nd.
I thought it was over Bracey's head. Stunning catch.Agree Crane should have taken the single but he batted well.
Nick Webb really was very low key about this potentially being a world best run chase.
Wow. Don’t know how to feel about that. Is it like scoring a 95th minute equaliser or conceding one……..
When Mason Crane refused the single the fielders dropped back, which effectively allowed him another shout. It also made getting a 2 or 4 harder to get. He then had to take the single to ensure we couldn't lose.
I haven't seen the celebrations but they sound ott, especially as there's no difference in points for a draw or a tie.
Definitely OTT

I watched the last few deliveries. Amazing effort to get enough to draw but it felt like a loss.
No wonder they celebrated as they prevented a miracle.
Great finish. Feel for Mcillroy there though. He's up one end doing his bit for a historic win, while Crane is going to pieces for no apparent reason at the other end. All the hard work done, just to spaff it away, pretty much sums us up over the last 2 months.
Still, a cracking game that will be remembered for a long time.
Was frustrating that he didn't take that single, but Crane did brilliant to get to that position in the first place. So some of the criticism seems a bit harsh.
The celebrations were a little OTT, but I suppose how often do you take a gloveless, one-handed wonder catch to tie a 1200+ run match on the last ball. He was also probably relieved that his double century wasn't for nothing.
On a plus note, there were 10k viewers for those last few overs on YouTube. Great advert for county cricket.
Good post. Crane did well to hold things together after Northeast went, it was a great effort. He'd have talked to McIlroy before the final over, some advice probably came out from the dressing room too so it may not have been all on him how it panned out. He was prepared to stand up and take the responsibility, he's well in credit for me.
I agree with you about the celebrations. On top of the match situation there was probably a bit of needle after they thought McIlroy had edged one to the keeper a couple of overs earlier. It was an absolutely stunning catch too, as you say. Let him have his moment.
I’ve no problem with Bracey’s celebration, for a split second I thought the ball was flashing away to the boundary, but it turned to be a great, possibly unique, catch. However, I just do not get Crane’s decision to turn down the single - because I think that, it doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate that innings or a few others he’s played and I’d say that he’s already done enough to persuade me that Glamorgan should make his loan move a permanent one if there is the chance to do so.
However, Crane did two things by turning down that single - first, the chance Glamorgan could lose was kept alive. Second, by taking until the fifth ball to get his single, he piled the pressure on McIlroy who, instead of having three balls to come up with the winning run, had just the one. McIlroy’s a typical number eleven, but he’d helped put on thirty one for the last wicket, so he was hardly in the walking wicket category.
With the benefit of hindsight there's nothing to argue with there. It's exactly how most of us see it, I'm sure, and how most of us saw it as soon as he turned the single down. Knowing this board though, if he'd taken the early single and McIlroy had got out then Crane would be getting slagged off for being a pathetic bottler who couldn't wait to get out of the firing line.
He'd probably weighed up the odds and felt the bowler would bowl one ball he could hit for at least two. He was right but when it came he completely mistimed it. Turning down the single had piled the pressure on in a couple of ways. It showed his hand and allowed Gloucester to set a field that made it harder to hit the winning runs and, also, he must've have been aware how irresponsible he'd look if he now got out and we'd lost. Understandable if the pressure got to him then.
Understandable too if his brains were slightly scrambled, it's not exactly a regular occurrence for a bowler to try and guide the tail home to a target of 593. Incredible game, credit to everyone involved. Glamorgan take a lot of stick on here but they showed plenty of heart, it was a great effort.
Can't agree that people would be having a go at Crane for taking a single. To have a go at him for taking a single you'd need to be an absolutely monumental idiot. There were a few occasions in the last couple of overs where Jamie wanted a run and crane turned him down. We've got some great players,Crane being one of them, but we don't half seem to suffer from some serious brain fades at times.
But it's unfair to single out Crane. When the margins are that fine, you could point to any mistake over the four days being the difference. A misfield, an overthrow, a no ball.
There have been plenty of games this year that Glamorgan should have won, and they've rightly deserved the criticism in those instances. I would class this one in the "could" have won. As a tail ender, Crane could just as easily have swung out on 5 or 10, and we would have come away with nothing.
Glamorgan needed two runs off the last over to win, they managed one. You’d think that they’d lost a wicket early in the over given they only scored the one run, but Crane faced five before leaving it to McIlroy for the last one. Crane has shown throughout the season that he is much better than a tail end batsman and I bear that in mind when I say he made a mess of the last over - as I said above, surely you don’t turn down the chance to ensure you won’t lose the game with four balls to go? If McIlroy wasout off the next ball then so be it, but he would have been better placed to play “proper” cricket if he had four balls to come up with a single rather than one.
Looks like Gloucester's luck may be running out. Chasing 150 against Kent, they were 23-0 after 3 overs when rain hit. Cleared up enough for them to come out for another 2 overs in which they managed to lose 2 wickets to end up 29/2 after 5, rains come back and delayed the game again. If no more play possible I make the DLS par (using a rather dodgy online calculator) to be 38 after 5 overs. A loss for Gloucester would be good for our admittedly Toby chances of qualifying
Great start. Nice to see Smale back and teeing off
Blimey, just switched over from the football to see we’re 150/1 in the 12th over - of course, as soon as I start watching, we lose our second wicket!

This is more like it! Great from Glamorgan. Surrey v Middlesex and Somerset v Essex both abandoned, so a win here moves us up to 6th place, 4 points outside the top 4.
Glam win. Finish at 10:35. Ridiculous decision to restart when field very wet. Glam had won it on DL at that point.
Totally agree Dave. That was dangerous with players slipping and sliding. Fortunately no one was Injured.
Very pleasing to see all four youngsters doing well
Interesting selection tonight. Looked like we'd given up on top 4 and gave the three younger lads a go (surprised to see Bevan is nearly 25 now), two of them batting in the top three and one opening the bowling. Like you say, they all did well too and it was a good performance all round. Now we've nearly got the top 4 in sight again will we stick with them on Sunday or go back to guys like Gorvin and Northeast for their experience?
After the embarrassment of Gloucestershire in the T20 and then humiliation at the Oval, I was writing our obituary for the season. The draw with Northants that almost turned into a defeat after they had been dominant didn’t do anything to change that, but the last two games have been more encouraging - Sussex are having a great season so far, yet we’ve beaten them three times out of three. That said, let’s see where the encouragement from those matches takes us because we’ve been pretty pathetic when it came down to the wire in our T20s so far and we need to provide more proof that things have improved before I forget that Gloucestershire defeat in Cardiff in particular.
Would be good to see timm back in the side, agree about the seam options being poor. Surprised by Mcillroy, thought he looked really good in the short stuff last year and was hoping he'd kick on again but he appears to have gone backwards. I thought sole bowled better than his figures would suggest last night, hoping he comes good.
Not sure what's going on with Douthwaite over the last few games. He had been bowling very consistently for us until that Somerset game. Was awful against Somerset but somehow ended up with 4 wickets(2 great yorkers admittedly). Now he seems to be searching for a wicket taking delivery every ball instead of just keeping it tight and he's getting absolutely smashed as a result.
Van Der gugten back in for Mcillroy.
Good change I think, Mcillroy doesn't look himself recently. Strong Essex side but certainly bearable if we play well. Hoping Marnus clicks today, he's been in a bit of a slump so he must be due a big score
Labuschagne dealt a very painful blow amidships. Glamorgan 87-3 off 12 overs on what looks a slow wicket.
Labuschagne bowled shortly after he recovered, 87-4.
I would not want to bowl to Colin Ingram when he's in this mood. Absolutely battering it. Cooke joining the party aswell!
Kellaways done his best to f@ck it up. But both set batters out, Essex 5 down and Glamorgan back in the game!
Much better captaincy. Much better fielding. Need to keep it going but overall a very good week.
Good win. Some better catching today.
Glam win by 27 runs
Table looking a bit congested now with Glos beating Somerset aswell. Looking at Surrey's fixtures, we could do with them winning all their games for the rest of the campaign.
Top 4 is certainly possible if we play well
