Asa Tribe and Ul- Hassan have been excellent recently in getting the innings off to a decent start. That's taken the pressure off the middle order massively. That coupled with Kellaway and Gorvin stepping up and Fernando seeming more settled, it's been a great turnaround.
Yes, I’d say it is too early to mention the P word - I’m still not counting any chickens in the current game. We’re home to Middlesex next week, the team that ALWAYS beats us in the red ball game in Cardiff - if we win that one, I might start believing!Quote:

Decent chance that Gloucestershire and Lancashire could win their first games today,d but, even if Derbyshire lose at Old Trafford, they’ll go above us. Apart from Leicestershire at the top, it’s shaping up as a real even division.

I'd be interested to know what's shifted in the dressing room mentality-wise, because something clearly has. As well as the improvement with bat and ball, they're much tighter and more urgent in the field. You can't help but feel Carlson's excellent slip catch yesterday would have been put down four or five weeks ago.
The only downer was Marnus' damp squib. If he was staying here longer, you could make the case that a warm-up knock with the seconds would have been a wiser idea this week, although luckily it didn't cost us. I'm not even sure you can say he's dusted the cobwebs off because he only faced 10 or so balls, but hopefully he makes up for it against Middlesex.
Gloucestershire win and Derbyshire hang on for a draw at Lancashire with eight wickets down.
Lancashire’s failure to get those last two wickets means their ten points in front of us. Gloucestershire join us on 75 points.
No Kellaway or Fernando for today’s final red ball game for a while against bogey team Middlesex - we’ve got a new overseas signing for just this match.

Real shame about late wickets. But overall another positive day on the back of last day v derby and the 2 wins. Can we make 400! Both TRJ and Higgins have been pains v us in recent years.
