I have attended many fatal or life changing road traffic collisions in similar type situations during my career as a paramedic. You appear to make the assumption that people act with common sense when behind the wheel. 32 years of dealing with RTC’s has shown me this is not the case.

Really needed it to be in the 1000s.
For some bizarre reason they were outside the museum.
Judging by the placards it was the extreme nutjobs from the internet who think the earth is flat rather than any sort of protest against the speed limit change.

I reckon the 20mph limit added seconds to my overall Journey not even minutes. One of the roads coming out of RCT I was surprised to see still at 30. If your not happy lobby the council.
It's not as bad as people are making out.
I travelled from Caerphilly to Newport on Thursday and expected most of roads to be 20 through BTM but they were the old speed. The only part that did have a reduction was around Bassaleg Comp which makes sense.
My commute has also been extended by a few second. The volume of traffic at some of the junctions is still by far causing the biggest holdups.

Just to add to that - I drove from my home, near Merthyr town centre, to the game on Tuesday. In a distance of 25 miles, the only new 20 mph zone that I encountered was the stretch of road between the town centre and the roundabout just before the old Hoover factory. Again, just seconds rather than minutes might have been added to my journey.

You state that the speed limit is not a target speed but I disagree. The majority of people will drive at the limit or just above it especially on 30 mph roads. Many drivers will accuse other drivers of being Sunday drivers if they drive below the limit, as shown by some posters on this topic having a go at drivers going below 20.

It is “up to “ according to the speed awareness course that a friend attended last year

Re: 20mph online petition
The speed limit driving over the Rhygos is 40 mph and that’s the speed I stay at. Even though it’s about six in the morning when I make my journey, I get overtaken by four or fives cars every time even though I’m close to breaking the speed limit myself. Unbelievably, I was overtaken while driving 20 mph in a 20 mph zone which had a speed camera last Monday.

I am not disagreeing with the definition of a speed limit, I am saying that many drivers will drive to or just above the limit for the road that they are on. Very few speed cameras are set at exactly 30mph, they are usually set at 33 or above to allow for margin of error in the accuracy of the speedo on the car. Drivers take this into account when setting their road speed.

Needs far better organisation, did anyone even know about it? Wait until everyone’s points start to mount up in a few months, then have a proper one….start in town finish some random street in Pontcanna….:ayatollah:

Do points impact upon car insurance? I've never had any 😇

Re: 20mph online petition
I can only reiterate what I’ve previously written. When they changed the limits to 30kmh where I lived in Poland, the result introduced more danger, with people overtaking slower traffic. It only improved when speed bumps were introduced.

Re: 20mph online petition
Car insurance set to fall in Wales by 50%.because of 20mph.
‘If Carlsberg did car insurance"

You're right. If it has any effect, and there's a while before an election so people may well have forgotten by then, then it's more likely to result in a reduced turnout. People won't vote tory but they will abstain.
Or maybe vote indy. I used to live in Blaenau Gwent which is in the Guinness Book of Records for the biggest majority in any UK election. Labour blotted its copy book a few years ago and an independent MP and AM were elected.
Others will no doubt disagree but Welsh Labour have a habit of introducing ill thought out policies so there's every chance they'll **** up again before the next election.

The labour party represent so many people yet they are shambolic locally and UK wide
We need a fresh start , I have to force myself to vote for them at times

Re: 20mph online petition
Yesterday there was a serious crash in Swansea and two youngsters were seriously injured. According to Walesonline, one young driver has been charged with dangerous driving. It seems that many accidents where someone is seriously injured has involved dangerous driving. Most accidents where young people are seriously injured involve young drivers.
Let's face it - 20mph speed limits aren't going to stop idiot driving like it or youngsters taking risks their inexperience cannot evaluate.
