Table service in pubs will make **** all difference. It's just "something must be done" politics.

This is not a criticism of you in any way, but it amazes me how quickly phrases like 'the rule of six' have become standard jargon. It's horseshit. But then the whole shebang is a load of horseshit.

I just literally copied it off my phone so the wording is not mine, hence,no offence taken.

It's utter bollocks and not actually based on much at all.

Agree.
Actually, I think it's probably fair to say it would make a small difference, but counteracted by it making a much bigger negative difference to hospitality.
Also, what difference to covid it does make probably more than lost by an increase in people just socialising in homes.

Its not just as simple as those at high risk start shielding. People will need hospital treatment anyway.
If the virus has a significant impact on NHS staff with a service already under pressure then there are going to be major issues. There will be an increase in Covid patients inevitable and that will be coupled with NHS staff being off sick or/and isolating with covid.
I really dont know what the answer is. I dont think telling people to work from home but go ahead and have your Christmas works gathering is anything other than bonkers though.

Re: Drakefords announcement Friday
Lets hope he is basing his information of real data 32 cases of the new variant is worrying ??
Without Westminster Furlough money he will have to be careful.
Pity he hasn't arranged walk up booster sites the variant effects without booster has been known for a while ?
Spotted this : ""professor in health said there was a 1000 people in Wales with covid in hospital wrong it now transpires there are 567 people the professors answer was typical I misread the figures, and these are the people who are supposed to be intelligent just all fear and the doctor in South Africa who discovered omicron has said Boris and Co are causing hysteria this is to control the population and to get the third jab into you ""
Lets see what Boris says tonight

But opening and closing on a whim is also not the answer
From a selfish view, I'm of the view mask and sanitise and lift all other restrictions - There will be some poor souls that will die but the alternative is there's going to be generations of kids with no prospects and messed up mental health, while hospitality crumbles.

Re: Drakefords announcement Friday
Shouldn’t passports/tests to enter premises come in before a blanket closure?

As I said I dont know what the answer is.
The mixed messages though. Boris you should work from home. Question to Boris should we cancel the works Christmas do. No go ahead. How does that make any sense.?
I really dont want another lockdown. If tougher restrictions now mean we arent locked down again after XMas for months then so be it.

Re: Drakefords announcement Friday
I don't see them closing anything, nor least because Westminster won't be so there will be no money.
The vaccines are by and large are doing the job of keeping people out of hospital, the booster certainly will. The initial resistance to the infection wanes with time but the t cell response that should stop people from becoming really unwell lasts far longer.
It's nearly 2 years on, there's no way we could continue to shut ourselves away. We have to have a plan other than firefighting every time a new variant pops up, which they will continually. There are many many things that demand funding, time and energy, many of which have been badly neglected.

Re: Drakefords announcement Friday
The problem being (as I see it) is that if these case numbers keep rising as they are (200,000 a day by Christmas) then its not just this new variant they are worried about but the masses of people self isolating for 10 days each time and the impact on the actual services. Hospital beds may not be at crisis point, but the staff to actually care for them might be.
What about the rozzers, fire service, supermarket staff, etc, etc if half of them can't actually work?
If they do nothing and let it spread then workplaces will be massively understaffed throughout January.
The booster gives extra protection hence the big push on it.
Thats my view anyway.

Let's not forget those who distribute food and drink. Logistics could well be a nightmare. As an aside, the care home chain that owns my dad's care home have stopped all visits until Christmas Eve.

Very well said!

Re: Drakefords announcement Friday
Even if the new variant is milder, hospitalisations will be up due to the sheer number of people who will get it. The bigger picture will be a new round of the ‘pingdemic’ with many people isolating, especially when this hits the NHS staff. I’m sure there will be big supply chain issue too so get your toilet rolls and baby milk now if you can.
The issue of keeping schools open will depend on the reliability of the early reports from SA showing that kids are more adversely affected by this new strain.

I seem to recall there being no science behind it at all, wasn't it just a number Michael Gove came up with?

Let's wait and see shall we? Always loads of rumours around these reviews that turn out to be false

What a Black Friday this will be if there's risk of pub restrictions

Re: Drakefords announcement Friday
Boris is keeping England open as more an more people getting jabs and boosters.
More mask wearing and vaccine proof/neg LFT for larger events. Use common sense and generally go about your business
Seems a sensible approach to me. No self isolation for close contacts if you are negative. So the show can stay on the road.
Drakeford is going to make himself pretty unpopular if he closes things down.
