Cullen runs him close.
3 sets all, 2 legs up on his throw and doesn't hit a single treble.
Edit: He then has two darts to take the 4th leg and fecks up.
Tie breaker situ!

Humphries blows 9 darts to win it, then breaks throw in the deciding leg with some phenomenal scoring. What a match!

Awesome match winning on the tie break.
Gutted for Cullen.

I struggle to get behind Cullen. He can be amazing, but utterly shit at the same time. He has moments where he looks as if he's never played the game for a few minutes, then switches back on and can blow anyone away.

Agree Cullen is frustrating to watch but I have warmed to him because he has a strange throwing action wide from his right ear, he has to be at a disadvantage
He was broken walking off.
I thought that the Littler RVB game was awesome but this one takes it for drama.

I think it’s reflected in his world ranking, never beyond the last 16, he lacks self belief when it comes to the crunch

He's had a few kickings like tonight. It's something he doesn't seem to be able to sort. 2-0 up in the final set and he throws 58, 60, 58, 41, 59. He hits one treble after 18 darts, T7, and is on 165 after 18 thrown. That's piss poor, even accounting for nerves, especially after a 13 dart break of throw.

I think his unorthodox throwing aim doesn't help. When his radar disappears, it goes big time, and it can vanish at any point, without warning, when he must least expect it.

Basically what I said then lol

Absolutely. What I can't work out is that he must know it's a problem, but I guess correcting it is even worse.
I heard a story about John Henderson and pros tried to correct that weird rocking motion he had towards the oche whenever he threw. He was rubbish if he stood still!!

I was about to say he has probably gone too far to change his style.
How Kerry O'Keefe made it as a pro with his style seems incredible.

I've always thought this, same as players like Chisnall and Bunting. More talented than a Wade or an Aspinall but just lacking a bit of mental toughness and belief when push comes to shove. Michael Smith was the same for ages, Gary Anderson too before him, as I remember, so it's not something that can't be overcome.
It's interesting what MacAdder and Eric are saying here though. Having a slightly unorthodox action may handicap you to a degree, just as it would in golf or snooker. Surely though, these guys throw so many darts in practice that they should be able to rely on the process in the crunch moments? If it was all about the throwing action then Van den Bergh would be world number 1 and Jocky Wilson wouldn't have got further than the pub leagues.

Re: Official 2024 PDC World Darts Championship Thread
Dobie seemingly strolling to the semis at 4 nil needing one more then Cross scrambles a set and turns the tide.
4-2 and Dobie gets a dart for the match but misses the bull.
4-3 and all to play for.
Edit Cross breaks straight away!

Re: Official 2024 PDC World Darts Championship Thread
Cross on a TB. It's happened again.
Heartbreaking for Dobie.

Re: Official 2024 PDC World Darts Championship Thread
Does anyone happen to know how old Luke Littler is? He’s good isn’t he.

He’ll be 17 in 3 weeks time.

Only managed to watch snippets of the Littler win but looks like it was pretty convincing, 5-1.

He's deadly on the treble 18.
Hit a couple of 162, hit a 140 out with 2xt18 - d16.

Impressive indeed.
He seems to have very few nerves.

Didn't Cross manage an unlikely comeback against Gurney in the matchplay a couple of years ago? Needed something like 10 out of the last 12 legs.

Won 17-15 from 14-7 and 15-9 down in 2019.

Yes, that's it. Remarkable comeback.
