Re: Does anyone really care that we're out of the FA cup?
Yes I do. The only saving grace is that I won't have to spend another cold night at the start of March watching a largely second choice side get run rings around by largely second string Sheffield Utd.
Last night really annoyed me as we were two up against a very average Reading side who we could beat in 4 attempts. Agreed we are absolutely average ourselves and I'd bet now we will finish somewhere between 10th and 14th, but second half we fell apart and the football at the moment is very uninspiring to put it politely.

Oh sounds like we'd beat them easy then :hehe:
I'm sure with sights on a quarter final they'd play a few more first teamers too.

Looking at the team sheet last night shows that to be a nonsense statement

About as much as finishing top 6

I don't find the prospect of securing mid-table exciting enough to forfeit the enjoyment a cup run.

They're hardly Barcelona though so it isn't beyond the realms of possibility we'd beat them. We might as well try. We're currently going to finish about 12th and by the time the 5th round comes around we'll have absolutely nothing to play for. We can't defend, we don't score and we don't win games.
Re: Does anyone really care that we're out of the FA cup?
I only care about it while we're still in it. After we've been knocked out I couldn't give a feck

I'd rather us play them and try to beat them too.
Have you watched them this season though? Compared to us they are Barcelona.

Nor me. I can't understand the mentality of the club, either.
As far as I'm concerned, City look to be the very definition of a mid-table side this season - comfortably too strong to go down and already with almost enough points on the board to stay up anyway; nowhere near enough quality to go up. They are the Championship's draw specialists for a reason.
At the start of the campaign, City were 3/1 to get promoted. You can currently get 33/1 and I believe that's about right.
What possible difference will it make if City finish anywhere between 7th and, let's say, 17th? Is there any extra prize money the higher you finish in the Championship? If there is, is that prize money significant?
If ever there looked to be a season where a decent FA Cup run was worth aiming for it was this one, especially as City had already been drawn at home to a mid-ranking Premier League side in the next round.

In a one off 90 minute game against their reserves, our first team might have given them a game. Now we'll never know because we've apparently decided to focus on getting 10th or whatever?
Re: Does anyone really care that we're out of the FA cup?
Going out like that after being 2 goals up sucks and especially to bloody Reading.
We need some excitement.

Not only am I furious that we couldn’t put Reading away and maintain some flimsy interest in this season but I expect Tan is too for passing up an opportunity to earn some more cash.

So you win your rounds, your replays, your extra times, your shootouts, your tired players get knocks and cards, and then you watch while one of the big boys wins the Cup. Every time.
We need to get safe in the league and move on with the rebuild. The first half showed what these guys can do. If they can do it in the league we can move up.
The FA Cup as it now is belongs in the days of leather balls and 20 quid a week. Best way to revive it would be to end replays and extra time and go straight to penalties.
Portsmouth and Wigan won it! And if it hadn't been Portsmouth it would have been US. The squad we have now is nowhere near good enough to stay in the EPL. We need at least half a dozen new players. With a majority preferably under 27 years old.
