I think you are clutching at straws Mick, however I don't think it'll turn out to be as great a night for the Tory party as currently suggested. It's going to be very difficult for Cameron to govern with such a small majority, if indeed they get that.

Not seen the latest predictions, but if it is a minority government and the Lib Dems decide not to support the Tories again, it would be ironic after all of their warnings about the disaster that a Labour /SNP alliance if they had to rely on a party from Northern Ireland to keep them in power.

The current predictions are that they will win a majority government, but only by a couple of seats at best. That being the case history shows how toxic that can be, so I can't see how they would do it without some sort of alliance.
Also, all predictions thus far have been undercooked so I think we might see more shocks and more Tory seats to come.

It's not that simple though. Sinn Fein do not attend parliament so do not vote there. Effectively that, combined with horse trading will see them get all but the most contentious bills through with no issues.
Isn't horse trading just a different term for some sort of alliance?

I'm saying that Scotland voting SNP doesn't make Scotland as left wing as you think. It's more to do with the scots wanting a powerful voice in parliament

The SNP aren't socialist either.

If the SNP had won the independence vote - all their budget / plans were based on the price of oil - which is now half the price it was.

just listening to the bbc pundits from all parties discussing labour, the consensus is that they can only get elected by swinging back towards to centre and they are unelectable otherwise, not what you want to hear or agree with but seems the likely labour path

Re: This is going to be one great result for Socialism
At least with the Torys you know what you're getting.
Labour, sorry NEW labour, have a track record of shifting their position in a desperate attempt to gain power.
They need to go back to their roots, make their position absolutely clear and choose a leadership that is credible and electable.
Right now they appear to be little more than Tory-Lite.
-
Re: This is going to be one great result for Socialism
The British people will never vote for a party of the far Left. They have rejected it time after time. And when it comes packaged as Milliband and Balls, two of the most vacuous specimens you could wish to encounter, and the most extreme Leftist candidates since Foot and Kinnock, the outcome was inevitable. If Labour gets its act together, ignores the dinosaurs of the Trade Union movement, and elects someone of the Centre like Alan Johnson, for whom I have the utmost respect, then they may find their way back. But the politics of envy have no place in Britain and it's time Labour learned the lesson.
Milliband, Balls (and Clegg) - take your Mansion Tax and stick it where the sun don't shine.
As for Scotland, I don't believe everybody who voted SNP wants separation. I think they took one look at Millband (the Conservatives were never in it) and voted anti-Labour - not because he's not Left enough, but just because he is obviously inept. We'll see in the Scottish elections next year.
And lastly (to be read in a Norwegian excitable accent):
Millband, Balls, the BBC, especially Evan Davis and Nick Robinson, nearly all Radio 4 comedy, especially Jeremy Hardy, Andy Robinson and Mark Wright, Eddie Izzard, Emma Thompson and champagne socialists everywhere, Owen Jones and all other jumped up academic theorists who've never had a proper job or totted up a balance sheet, and Guardianistas everywhere ..........
YOUR BOYS TOOK ONE HELL OF A BEATING!

its consigned to the historical dustbin now though. The conservatives have a majority and as such will go about embarking on some serious reform of the state, the bureaucracy, public services, education and welfare.
