Palace 1-1 1973?
Liverpool cup final
Barnsley semi final
Swansea 3-3
Wrexham 3-2 FA Cup
Bristol C away 0-6
I remember listening to Richard Shepherd’s commentary of the Cardiff v Swansea 3-3 draw. It was Boxing Day I think way back when and wasn’t it John Buchanan who scored a belter something he made a habit of doing.
QPR play off.
FA Cup Final , Carling Cup Final ,
Leeds in the FA Cup.
Wrexham away and Scunthorpe away under Eddie May.
Recent games just based on a mix of entertainment and us having a go the 1-2 loss home to Burnley in the Prem nearly 30 shots they had 2..2 on target 2 goals..but the game was great to watch. Arsenal at home as well we had a real go. Fulham same season.
Cup runs.
Bellamy v Swansea.
Chopra v Swansea.
Tottenham home in the Cup just for the day out was great from start to finish.
I go back to 1972 to my first game and a lot of my favourites have been mentioned.
But can I add Stoke away just a few weeks back I went on the the train and we were on a world breaking record of defeats.
To be honest I think the draw shouldn't have meant that much to me that day but it did and I'd put it in my top 10 best ever City results and games.
In a way the last game is my favourite, still happy with our last minute equaliser.
More realistically the FA cup semi with Barnsley probably. Very emotional day.
City 3-0 Aston Villa. Battered them from start to finish. They were totally shell-shocked. John Terry 'n' all.
I was at the Baseball Ground for the famous Derby 3-2 Leeds game when Norman Hunter and Franny Lee got sent off. It was the first football game I ever went to. That was a good day.
I was going to add the Wrexham away games of that year, but my list already had 5 games in it
We played them twice in about a week, league and welsh cup I guess, Saturday and midweek ( from my memory ) 2 decent away games, the welsh cup game, a few of us were on the train platform and a announcement was made would any Cardiff fans step forward as if they have enough here they will hold the last train, if not they won't
Another good one from that season was the 0-2 win away at The Racecourse . Blakey and …. Don’t remember. I do remember we took a big crowd up there. It was fun.
If we’re talking favorite games live ever , I’d also chuck in Wales-Germany (Rush) and the Italy game at the Millennium Stadium …. that was fkin brilliant.
One for each decade I've supported City with the criteria that I had to be there, rather than watching on TV/stream.
60s. City 2 Millwall 0 (Dec 68). The week after the Fulham match mentioned by others (my first away match and it's still my favourite away trip). I can remember waking up and seeing the deep snow in Pentrebane and thinking the match had to be off, but City worked really hard to get it on and 20,000 plus were there to see Brian Clark's unique goal when he headed in Bryan King's goalkick.
70s. City 3 Wrexham 2 (Jan 77)when Steve Grapes, a winger who never used to beat his full back, went past three Wrexham defenders to set up a last minute winner for John Buchanan who, rather than go for his usual blast, rolled the ball into the net with a side footer.
80s. City 1 Bolton 0 (Apr 88). I really enjoyed this game from the old Fourth Division between two good sides that both went up. It was played on a Friday night and City got their deserved win thanks to a Kevin Bartlett goal - it was just a good game of football, far higher than fourth tier standard.
90s. Cardiff 3 York 3 (Boxing Day 1992). Barmy match which we could have lost 10-3 - probably the game which persuaded Eddie May that signing Kevin Ratcliffe might not be a bad idea.
00s. Cardiff 2 Leeds 1 (Jan 2002). Was never into football violence, but even I had to admit that the "edge" that afternoon helped make it a really memorable occasion. I've disliked Leeds since the sixties and still do, so the thought that their near twenty year decline was started by us when they came here as Premier League leaders is a sweet one!
10s. Cardiff 3 Man City 2 (Aug 2013). it's sad and embarrassing that our best result in two seasons of Premier League football came in our first home game in that division, but it felt marvellous at the time.
20s. Cardiff 2 West Brom 1 (Jan 2020) A miserable decade so far in terms of City matches I've watched live - beating a team that were promoted that season thanks to some vintage Lee Tomlin class is as good as it's got so far, this game really doesn't have much in the way of competition in a decade in which I've only seen us win twice!
Wales 3 Russia 0 in Toulouse was spécial. Rare match where the result wasn't in doubt after about 30 minutes.
Huddersfield 2 cardiff 3 in 1989
My first away without my dad's supervision and Cohen Griffith scores a peach
Totally, never felt so relaxed at an important football match. That Austria game when Woodburn scored late will always stay with me as well. And Italy of course. That last Belgium game was up there was up there with the most I've ever enjoyed a football match as well actually
This is my favourite thread this year.
So many wonderful games.
Having just turned 50 I don't have first hand accounts of the games pre 80's but it's lovely hearing from people who were there.
Also, working out of the country since 2010... It doesn't seem I've missed much watching city in person apart from the odd game .. a terrible reflection of the past decade, our forays into the premier league and the awful rebrand.
I'm currently in Wales but so far only seen us lose at home... Last game for me until my next trip is on Saturday... Surely we have to win
