Marr was good at what he did but he's never going to be remembered as a great
And that's the way it is

Re: Johnny Marr , Cardiff , Radio One Music Festival Or Whatever It's Called
I've asked this question before on here. What do brilliant musicians do that ordinary musicians can't? What are the nuances that our music aficionados seem to be able to see but i most certainly can't. I enjoy the sound, but have no idea what is really good and what isn't.

In terms of this topic , it's not about who can play the fastest or most difficult notes , it's about the sound or at least in my opinion it is

I mean in terms of technique. I can tell a decent footballer by their shape, touch, vision etc, most of us can, because we have watched loads of it. But Musicians? Maybe it's nothing like sport in terms of individual brilliance, but the sound is the thing that makes the difference. Would be interested to know from those who can play a bit.

Randy Rhoads was a fine plucker.

That wouldn't include me then

Indeed, what a song crazy train was
Ozzy was hopeless as a solo artist but often had great guitarists backing him up

Put it this way a lot of people think rock music fans listen to music that is fast or technically very difficult but it's really about the sound
Some of the most amazing guitar sounds are easy to play and very simple
That little ditty in my life by the beatles for example

Wasn't Randy plucking Sharon?
I've watched a few Ozzy interviews about RR's untimely death, and Ozzy is always very complementary towards RR.

If he was he was my deepest sympathies
I think Ozzy and most people in rock music held RR in high esteem , he was a very gifted guitarist

Re: Johnny Marr , Cardiff , Radio One Music Festival Or Whatever It's Called
Met his namesake in Tenerife last January, John Marr, ex Partick Thistle, Greenock Morton. Had a few pints with him over a few nights, asked me how Gerry Byrne was getting on. He’d played with him in Scottish junior football. He, obviously, wished he had a quid for every time he was asked how Morrissey was getting on.

No, it isn't. I'll give you Hendrix, possibly Gilmore. But the rest of them are just a bunch of shredders. Good at what they do but can't write a decent song for toffee. Johnny Marr is already heralded as great. And will be remembered as one too. Just google what other guitarists have to say about him.

Yes it is
He was a guitarist in an indie student band
Jimmy Page , Hendrix , Pete Townsend ......Great rock guitarists
Marr was in a band that was league one compared to those boys
British indie music throws up some good bands and some good guitarists but the Smiths and Marr are not rock greats .
